Post PSP Pulley Installed. It rocks!

Received my lower pulley from PSP this morning and installed this afternoon. Truck is noticeably stronger. Went from 10lbs to 12lbs of boost. May even go even higher. I was only able to get on it once in traffic. (Digital gauge saves highest reading.) Can't wait to get to the track.
The install took about an hour. There are clear instructions with pictures showing step by step installation at PSP website.
In addition, I'd like to say that PSP new chip calibration is the best I have had so far, and I have four other chips.

What are the other 4?
I tried the PSP and it would ping under light load in 3rd and at WOT, are you experiencing anything like this with the PSP?
I actually made more RWHP w/Diablo (367) vs. PSP (356).
Does the pulley mainly help low end or ?

John, the new PSP program doesnt ping at all on my truck. Going up hill in overdrive at 35....no ping! As far as the pulley I cant answer that yet, have only driven it 9 miles since I put it on. Im assuming that the increase in boost is throughout the power band. I also have the Diablo and besides having to send it back twice to be fixed for various problems, it produced less horsepower on my truck. The PSP was 372, Diablo 356..back to back. More than the HP I like the drivabilty of the PSP and the downshifts. I do understand that everyones experience can be diffrent.

Mark gauges are dual digital. I have them in Lotek pillar pod. Here is their website http://www.spatechnique.com/instruments.html

This is a quote from back in Dec. of 99. Has something change with the Eaton where its not overspinning at 12 psi?

Hey Nathan, Sal here. I had looked into having custom blower crank pullies made to sell as well. But since our filter kit worked so much better than expected, and increases boost as well (I have received feedback from some customers seeing up to 3psi increase on aftermarket gauges), I didn't want to pursue the blower pulley because I didn't want someone "overworking" the blower with the filter kit AND the pulley. As we have previously discussed, the Eaton 112 is close to maximum efficency and we only had about 3 psi of room to improve if I recall correctly. It was also close to max rpm range for the blower, and that was before we were spinning them to higher shift points with chips. There are many products that people will try, and yes they may add power, but for how long? Personally I don't think these motors are as "bulletproof" as many think. Also, changing that lower blower pulley is no fun task. it requires a special socket to fit the pulley hex, and then you have to hold the motor somehow to break it loose. Ford has a special tool that you take the starter out and bolt in and it engagest he flywheel to hold the motor. But taking the starter out isn't fun either. You can try to shock the pulley free with a breaker bar, but last time I tried that, it almost didn't work. Either way, it's no half hour job.

hey all,

I too just had the PSP pulley, Chip and shift kit installed and what a difference. There is no more pinging and the truck pulls much harder. Cant wait to get to the track soon, hopefull, Sal and myself will be able to meet up before Englishtown. I am hoping to see some real nice time. Thanks again Sal.

I think the quote above from Sal saying the pulley was not a good idea deserves an answer. What changed his mind? Were his estimates on the max abilities of the blower wrong or what?

Thumbs up

I too have the PSP Lower pulley and NEW Street Program and Race program.
I DO HAVE TRACK TIMES!!
Before Pulley-on OLD PSP Race program-12.77 @ 104.56 mph w/1.84 60ft 8.15 1/8 in 45 degree weather.
After w/ Pulley and New PSP STREET PROGRAM on 93 pump gas: 12.56 @ 107.89 mph w/1.72 60ft 7.98 1/8 in 75 Degree weather.
Wish I had that 35 degree cooler weather it would drop another .2-.3 tenths.
It pulls a lot harder through out the entire power curve.
Still haven't trid the PSP Race Program. Having too much fun on pump Gas!!

Steve- shoot me an email or call me I have some info for you.

I was doing a search on the PSP forum for his reply on the pulley issue but couldn't find it. I'll keep looking for it and post it if I find it. Basically what he said was that his initial opinion was based on Eaton's stated max speed and the fact that the longer shaft would over flex and cause some damage. After realising that there was plenty of safety factor on the design, he prototyped a lower pulley and ran it for a period of time under different conditions. No adverse effect was seen and at that point decided to sell the pulley. Apparently this is just part of the learning curve we all go through.

Is the PSP pulley include both the harmonic balancer and the pulley? I thought I saw somewhere that it did. Thanks.
