line level converts, and crossover mounting questions?
Need some help. I am running some line level converters from my stock head unit to an amp. I don't want to cut any factory wires. Does any one know of an easy way to hook up the line level converts without cutting any factory wires? I will but using two sets. One off the front and one off the rear.
I have MB Quart cross overs. Looking at the size of the door on the L there is plenty of room for the cross over to be mounted inside the door. This will limit the amount of wire that needs to be run through the rubber booty, and make for a clean install. Does any one have any trick ideas or mounting adapters to do this?
Thanks for any help

I am thinking of doing the same thing as you. I have some AudiLink High level to low level converters. I don't know how you would hook up the converters without cutting the factory wires. In my 99 F150 I put the crossovers behind the kick panels and ran a 4 strand wire through the rubber boot. Ifeel this is better than putting the crossover in the door. No possibility of getting it wet, and less shock on the crossover from shutting the door.
On my SHO I paid a lot of money to have a system installed, they put the crossover in the door. When the system was removed the crossover was all corroded.
I put the system in my 99 F150 myself, and have had no problems with it. I will be taking it all out this weekend, and once the L gets here plan to use the amp and Focal speakers in the L.
What type of converters are you running?
Hopefully this spring we can get all of us New England Lightnings together.
Good luck on the install
Don

you could use wire taps (they "bite" thru the insulation) to tap all the speaker wires behind the raido, then unplug all stock speakers & tape up the connectors so they dont ground out or rattle around.
oh, i've heard that there is a "shelf" under the panel in our dash where you can put those converters. i'll be putting my phoenix gold high voltage line driver up there.
Don C is right about the crossovers in the doors.. it gets pretty damp in there.
if you mount the crossovers behind the seat, you'd only have 2 sets of wires to run to each door. thats easier than replacing crossovers. (i know you'll keep the lightning for a while, i've seen your cobra. lol)
also, when you put new speakers in, get some foam baffles. "XTC" brand. they are in crutchfield. they will make the speakers sound a little better.
i just sank a buttload of money into stereo stuff last week. now to put it all in.
