Question 2001 Head Lights

Does any one know what kind of head light bulb is in the 2001 Lightning? I want to upgrade to an HID system.

Thumbs down

Get out your wallet, it's gonna hurt. There have been several threads discussing this on this board. You might try a quick search, but, off the top of my head it seems that the HID conversion that was found cost like $1k+.

Rather than go the HID route (that wallet scream was too much for me) I installed the 9007 ultrawhite (not blue) bulbs in mine and have been very pleased with them except for the blue cast they give my headlights when turned off. I also installed a set of H3 ultrawhites in the foglamps and get great visibility at night with them.

They can be had for as little as $20/pr on Ebay or you can order them in the online store here.

I'm sorry I couldn't be more help on HID's, just thought I would share what worked for me.

Question

I appreciate the interest. Were the 9007's from PIAA?

I believe the '01's are using 9007's too. I got a price of 125 each on them from a dealer. They said mounting looked the same, never mentioned and HID lighting, and it would have shown up i'm sure.

There is a 9007 HID kit that you do not need to glue or custom fit anymore. It's a direct 9007 fit. For the newer headlights you would need to use a D2S bulb for Ellipsoidal headlamp and for the Freeform headlamp a D2R bulb would be needed. You can get then much cheaper then $1000.00.
