Post Post Mortem on My Engine

I posted a couple of weeks ago about the engine missing, running on 6 or 7. Compression in #3 cylinder was down. Plugs in 3 and 4 were completely burned. The new 2001 longblock was installed and the old engine dismantled. Number 3 exhaust valve had a half moon notch out of it, cylinder wall etched and the protrusion where the spark plug comes thru the head was pocked marked and half eaten away. The mechanic and the SVT service manager speculated detonation although the valve had sharp edges more like it broke off not burned off. Question remains as to the cause. Lean condition due to fuel pump inefficiency, chip too much timing advance, did the stock plugs play any part in it? Any thoughts on the cause because this would be an expensive nightmare if not under warranty......Ken

Sorry to hear about you losing the engine, but glad that it's covered under warrenty. And just think of all the fun you'll have breaking it in again. I'm curious, since you live so close, if I've seen you around. What does your L look like. Color, accessories? There are so many that live around me, I actually see alot of them on a daily basis.

What dealership is doing your warrenty work? I'm looking for a descent one to take mine to for a few minor things that need to be done.

Sorry about ur engine hope it don`t take to long to fix! Can anyone tell me what clear corners are???????

"clear corners" means clear side marker lenses.


clear tails means clear tail light lenses.

Question

Ken,
You mentioned possibly that the chip had too much timing...Did your Ford service manager hassle you at all about running this aftermarket chip? I'm currious about the reprocutions one can expect in a situation where aftermarket components are used and discovered (even after being removed) . This could sure hurt the OLE pocket book.

What is it with all the motor problems lately? My dakota is doin some weird stuff now too... Its blown 2 airhats, 2nd one almost hurt the hood... ~2000 rpms I get a lifter noise/timing chain loose noise..
I'm fustrated... Maybe I should just get a 360 instead

Spencer...If there are two Spencers around with white 2000 L's then maybe we didn't meet, otherwise I'm the TFO (too effing old)guy with the black 99 at Tower Shops or Moroso

Let me think here....I met someone at Fuddruckers a couple of weeks ago with a Black 99, was that you? Never got to see the truck. Otherwise, I'm not sure, I have seen alot of sweet looking Black L's around town, never at Moroso when I have been. And I haven't been to Tower Shops with the truck yet, only with my Mustang. Now you got me thinking
