Angry Cold Start Problems

Well, Friday after I got off work, went to start the L and she started crappy. Rpms no more than 300-400 stumbles. I go to step on gas and it dies. I wait a few seconds and try again, starts stumbles and dies. I then try a 3rd time keeping my foot on the gas, it starts and stays running. I let it warm up and put in drive. It was fine after that. Until today I go to start it and same thing. It sat in the garage since Friday after I got home. It starts fine if it has run for awhile, but like 8 hrs it starts crappy. Any body else have this problem?

I never had this problem with my L but I had it with my wife's car and resetting the computer cured it. At least it's a good first step.

I had the same problem with my Lightning about a month or two ago. Went away after I installed my JL Chip, not sure why.

I may suspect teh battery is bad as it only is doing it when really cold. 10-20 outside. Above 32 it ws fine. What color is the battery charge indicator supposed to be?

I havent tested it lately but years ago the battery was only used for starting the engine. Once the engine is running the Alternator/generator makes more than enough power to fire the coils. The battery only comes into the picture when the load exceeds thet Gen output. Which would only occur when the RPM is low and the load is really high.

Mine didn't stumble. It raced up to 1800 rpms like a normal start and immediately died. The only way I could keep it running was putting my foot into it. It was my idle air control valve(sp?) getting stuck in the closed position. This happened intermittently until I had it replaced. Tapping on it with a heavy object freed it up until then.

Oh and Jason, hate to say this in the Lightning Forum but, I asked the tech how to prevent the valve from gunking up, he said,
"STOP DRIVING IT LIKE AN OLD LADY!"

Cool

I have trouble starting my truck in cold weather. I was in Oklahoma City this morning and tried to start it up with temperature around 30 degrees. No dice. Pulled the chip and it started right up. This has only occured since the Pro-M installation. I am assuming the fuel mixture is too lean to ignite in colder weather with my Swanson program.
