I wont belive it
I wont belive it
Someone told me last night that the new tundra and a bone stock Lightning will run side by side at the track. i refuce to belive it, I have dreamed of owning a lightning since before i had my lissance. Not just for the power but the styling, I love it. But the Lightning held the title for the fastest production truck for idk how many years and if its running beside a nonsupercharged ugly *** foren POS!!!!! then i dont know what to think. It really dont matter as soon as i turn 25 and my ins goes down i will be on the hunt for my new baby. its just my $.02 feel free to let me know how you feel on the subject. and PLEASE tell me im wrong.
I don't believe that either!!
the roush F-150, with roughly 500hp and 500ft-tq at the flywheel has a hard time w/ the lightning due to its increased weight (weighing about 5,300lbs).
A stock Tundra, 5.7L, weighs about 5,000lbs, and only 381hp and 401ft-tq at the flywheel.
Stock Lightning 2001 is about 4,600lbs, 380hp and 450ft-tq.
Close, but not that close. And i wouldn't even mention anything about "fastest production truck"....my 2001 is 7 years older and with the way the car makers are fighting over who has the most power, i bet you'll see stock cars/trucks making 700hp or more in the next couple years.
Either way, Lightning's will always hold the name "fastest production truck", and will always be the best trucks!!!

Check out the times for the Crew Cab Tundras right here...

There have been numerous Lightnings, right here on this site, that complained of not being able to run times much better than the ones posted there from a heavier vehicle. Over my years of being here, the newer Lightnings seemed to be faster than the first ones out. (Stock) I still haven't seen what a standard cab Tundra, w/a short bed, runs in the quarter.
People tend to forget what slushboxes the L's have for trannies (stock) and that the Tundra is sporting a more efficient 6 speed.

Believe it!
The Tundra has a very advanced induction system and a very efficient 6 speed. In the same configuration, it will smoke the 403hp Silverado with the 6 speed. I have witnessed this myself.
The standard cab, short box, 2 wheel drive Tundra is dead even with a stock Lightning. The six speed makes up the difference for the extra weight and slightly higher torque. Toyota has tested this and has broadcasted the results to all their dealers and are using this to sell their vehicles.
Newer Lightnings were faster than older ones because their tune is much leaner. I have a 2004 computer in my 00 and the difference is huge. A few of us here have done this and the results are the same.
Toyota's goal is to do the same thing to the F-150 as they did to the Taurus with the Camry and put Ford out of business.

On a 2001 brochure, Ford claims a 0-60 in 5.9 and the quarter 13.9.
So if the 4 X 4 Tundra Supercab does the quarter in 14.6 with a 0-60 in 6.1, I would say that a 2 wheel drive, short box, regular cab Tundra would be a good match.
And that stock Lightning better be in tip top shape....

And also, if Toyota is building their imported products out of the same steel as they always have been, then you will continue to see toyotas with big rusted out holes in body panels like you do here in the midwest where the answer to snow and ice is salt! Even their Lexus line around here in the Lake Michigan area rots out badly after a few years. The Tundra would be the only Japanese-brand-name anything that would come close to enticing me when and if I part ways with my F150, but I truly want an F250 or F350 SD supercrew with the 6-sd manual and PS turbo diesel. 2nd choice would be a diesel powered Dodge also with a manual.
Unless I live under a rock, does Nissan or Toyota even offer a diesel option in their full size pickups?
