P.I. converter

so how many of you guys who run, or ran a precision industries conv. had their converter take a poop on them. the reason i'm asking is because i have a p.i. 2400 conv. and when the trans is in gear and i'm on the brake i hear a nasty rattle comming from the bellhousing area. when i throw it in park, neutral or accelerate the noise goes away. any idea's???

well

could be a convertor. I have the same thing going on. Stock convertor. It's actually my tail pipes rattling on the frame resonating through the cats......

Only happens when i'm at a light on the brake. Neutral or park, never happens.

I have a PI converter and I experience a similar issue. But it only does it when I'm stalling the converter. I've never had any issues with it other than that and I've had it for a year and a half.

Call me stupid, but I had the same problem with a Chance converter and I found that the bolts were, either not tightened enough or they backed out. I'm glad that I heard it and rechecked them because they were loose (or else) and I used Lock Tight when I re-tightened them and I never had another problem. Just my 2 cents.

Cool

HI!... Well if you have the triple disc P.I converter, they are known to "CHATTER" a bit. My 3000 stall P.I converter is dead silent. Been like that for 3 years now. But some of the good converters will chatter a bit.

neal and sw, from what you guys are saying it sounds like this is a somewhat of a normal issue. with that being said should i be worried about anything as far as driveability issues. so far i have not experienced any problems "yet" and the truck drives normally. when i accelerate soft it's fine and when i lay down the smack... i lay down the smack.

thanks guys

I wouldn't worry about it. If it becomes too much of an annoyance you could always take you truck to a reputable transmission shop and get their opinion. Most places will test drive it and give you their $0.02 for free.

I may check mine out next time I'm under the truck. Did you just remove the dust shield and turn the flexplate with a big screwdriver?

Had the same rattle going on last week with my exhaust, sounded just like you described, thought it was the cats....problem was the rubber isolater that is between the bracket that supports the mid pipes, tightened the bolt real tight that holds mid bracket isolater.......RATTLE is GONE....Getting new rubber isolater monday........Might give that a try.........
