NASACR has got to do somthing about the head injuries. It appeared Tony Stewart more staight on and harder and then took a terriable ride, luckly he was not hurt badly.

The Black #3 should be retired.....as a tribute to the MAN.

Not a fan of Big E but I loved to watch him race. My heart sank when I heard the news. I think he probably died instantly. Kenny Schrader supposedly went and told Michael Waltrip that Earnhardt was dead as soon as the interviews were over. Schrader was one of the first one's to see Earnhardt before the paramedics got there. You can read between the lines. It's a tragedy.

I'm in shock. My prayers go out to his family. He died doing what he enjoyed. He was always the Intimidator-- a manly man -- and rejected a full helmet that might have saved his life. It is a very visible reminder of our mortality.

Triumph and tragedy only seconds apart.

A true racer has been lost.

He will be missed dearly. His passing will forever change NASCAR and its fans. Some people love him and others loved to hate him
but EVERYONE respected him.

I am heartbroke. I just can't believe it. I don't know what to say. I'll be praying for his family. The only thing that bothers me is the thought that there may have been enough time for him to be scared before he passed. I can't get that out of my head.

i cant believe it. he has been my favorite driver for years. it just seems unbelievable. especially on the last lap.

it sounds rather bad to say this but if someone had to die at the race at least it was someone who had lived 49 years and accomplished everything in NASCAR there is to do.

And that it didnt happen to someone who had only been racing 2-3 years. like tony stewart. that wreck was 100 times worse than dale's. how he survived that is beyond me.

i just wish that dale had been taken out in that wreck and not at the end. i just keep watching the tape and seeing all the places where he could have changed the whole outcome but i guess it was his time.

This is a very sad time for ALL NASCAR FANS.
The strange thing about all this is that Dale Jr. had a dream weeks ago that he won the 500 and was asked where his father was and he responded he wasn't there. Dale Jr. didn't win but his dad wasn't there for the end of the race. Is this freaky or what?

Unbelievable - He was NASCAR and Winston racing. It's going to take awhile for the sport to recover from this. Can't imagine a Winston race without him and his presence. The sport just lost a lot of excitement.

Never been a fan of "IronHead"....But a terrible tragedy. Can't help but think it is so ironic that a man who made a career of putting people in the wall, would end his life in such a matter. God Bless his family and rest in peace Dale.
