Picking up my 2001 this week>>>>>>>>
Is there anything I should watch out for?
Anything I should know or check before I accept delivery?
How many miles are acceptable for the odo?
I really don't want a truck that's been thrashed by the salepeople, or has more than 5 - 10 miles on it.
She's the first to show up at this dealership, s I am a little nervous that the temptation to take it out and tear it up will be too strong for the staff to resist.

Check out the underneath of the front bumper for scratches. Check the paint really good, mine had a couple of pieces of trash in the clear coat. An one thing I noticed, who is the guy in Oakville that puts on the emissions label, the one right when you open the hood? They ought to fire that guy. I have not seen an one yet that was put on without bubbles in it or (like mine) peeling off.

call the dealership and tell them:
do not install the front license plate bracket
do not put a dealer sticker on the back of the truck (eg- billy bob's ford)
make sure they know not to scratch the bottom of the front bumper cover, if they do, demand to have it fixed.
tell them NO JOY RIDES OR TEST DRIVES!
anything over 10 miles on the odometer will be unacceptable. (
tell them not to wash/buff your truck. i wouldnt want some 18 year old drop-out doing anything to damage my paint.
tell them not to put window sticker on window.
when you go to get the truck, before signing anything, go test drive it & leave the raido off to listen to everything. (test the raido in the parking lot)
make sure all fluid levels are right.
make sure all your owners manuals, & etc.. are in the truck
did i miss anything?

See if you like the way it tracks on the highway. You can get them to do an alignment under warranty if you go back soon enough. Then you can get them to put the cambolt kit in as well.

One more thing to check is to make sure that the CD changer has the CD "slots" (?) in it. Just had to go pick mine up today.

Fortunately, they (Evergreen Ford) doesn't put their logo on Lightnings. They were nice enough to install the front license plate bracket for me (bastards). If you pick it up after dark, don't let them wash it for you. They take it down the road and run it through the local automatic-car-scratching-facility (I caught them in time).
Mine had 8 miles on it, but I got there two hours after it was delivered. They may not have been able to resist it if it sat there all weekend.
Make sure you get your free tank of gas.
We've got 9 Lightnings going down to Tacoma on 3/31 for dyno testing ($28/run if I remember correctly). If interested, you can sign up here:

i got my truck a few hours after it came in..
they had already washed it & pulled the plastic off of everything. grrr
i had specific instructions that they were not to let anyone test drive it.. (other than the guy doing the safety check)

They installed your front plate holder?
Sh*t!,
So now you have holes drilled in bumper huh.
I hope I can catch them before they do.
Thanks for the heads up guys.
I'll be posting picks after I get her home, but so far it's still not at the dealership.

I think Marcus is referring to the CD magazine. They only give you one, which is clearly inadequate. Don't buy extras from your dealer, they are way overpriced. There's a place on-line where you can order them for something like $26 each.
Check to see that they hung your bumper straight, and also put the bed on straight. Also make sure they give you the towing accessories. As far as the cam bolt kit goes, I don't think that is covered under warrantee, and Ford charges way too much for it (as usual), you can get one for under $50, and it is a worthwhile addition. I thought they fixed the clunk on the '01s, but if not, apply the fix of your choice at the same time. If I think of anything else I'll add it.
