OK. So I am sick of the sucky speakers in my $30K truck. I think if SVT had really "listened to customer concerns" like they say they did in the 2001 Lightning brochure, they would have added a better factory stereo, not just lighted vanity mirrors. Ugh.

Anyway - I want to keep the factory stereo for now but at least improve the sound, so I think the first step is to upgrade the speakers. I am not looking to spend a fortune, or but subwoofer enclosures(yet), but I need to know what kind of wattage the factory stereo produces. Anyone know?

No clue, probably not more than 10 watts per channel though. Any decent aftermarket speaker can handle what the Factory Radio puts out. I agree about the crappy speakers, definitely my next mod. HEY FORD, WHERE'S MY MACH 460!

I replaced the factory speakers with 2 pair of Coustic brand 6x8 speakers. What a difference! The speakers were a perfect mechanical "bolt-in" but of course the wiring was not, so I cut the connectors off the factory speakers and mounted them to the Coustics for a true direct replacement with no changes to the truck wiring.

Well worth the effort.

 

figure 6 to 8 watts on that stereo, probably more towards the 6 side.

watts aren't everything on the stereo either though, but the stock system is garbage. you would be better off doing a new head unit, and cheaper speakers then doing good speakers. buit that also depends on where you want to go with the stereo later on too.
