Straight pipes on lightning?

I just bought my new 2001 lightning and have been looking for the right exhaust setup for low cost. I came across someone that had straight pipes and it sounded awesome so i searched the forums for hours and people seem to be split on whether straight pipes are good or not. So i was wondering if i remove my stock muffler and replace it with an x-pipe would this sound good, and will i lose any low end. Any opinions?

Thats another setup i was looking at, but with the high flow cats. But i just can't afford that right now so i'm looking for something cheap that will sound good(not too loud) and not lose me any low end. Anyone else?

my buddy did that on his '99 (and a 6# pulley) and it sure sounded great unless you were the car in the right lane

I had that setup on a 01 when i bought it. You'll get sick of it quick. Sounds like a big ole dump truck. Sounded good at idle thou.

My 02 has no cats and the Magnaflow cat back. Sounds bitchin' but a bit too loud...can't really talk on the cell phone while driving so its a bit distracting... but fun watching people put their windows up while i pass them...

check out the link, you can hear my truck in action.

I ran no cats stright pipes with 4 inch tips. It was all good for a day, but got old real quick. Say good bye radio, goodbye S/C whine becuz you will not be able to hear anything but that damn loud exhaust. Put magnaflow bullets on a week later. They sound bad a$$!!
