Question Things to do in the Carolinas?

I'm gonna go to the NASCAR Race at Darlington next month, and will be taking an extra 5 days or so to do the tourist thing. My question is, what are some cool things to do in the North & South Carolina areas? I was thinking Charleston, Civil War sites, outer banks, etc. Any suggestions from you folks down there? Any good seafood?

I think most of that 'canoe trip' was filmed in TN, set in GA

Asheville is a great spot in Western NC (Biltmore House - see it in the movie Hannibal; Blue Ridge Parkway - love to get my L on that road)

The Outer Banks are great, see Kitty Hawk, Cape Hatteras lighthouse

In SC definitely see Charleston - Fort Sumpter, the Battery, tour a WWII aircraft carrier (can't remember the name)

Cool

1. Get you some good South Carolina Pulled Pork BBQ!
2. In Camden is an Interesting Revolutionary war fort/site that is only a few minutes up I-20 from Darlington
3. Patriots Point in Charleston- Aircraft Carrier and other cool stuff.
PS I can't believe we are getting Deliverance jokes from Cajun Country

K_Schmidt, the Outer Banks are still going to be like a ghost town next month but, maybe that's what you're looking for. Charleston was one of the most beautiful cities I've been to, cobble stone streets, fantastic architecture.

DB is right about Biltmore it is awesome. If you are coming across on I-40 there is a winery called StoneHaus in Crossville, TN is is right off the interstate. Do yourself a favor and stop in and try the Lantana White- it is out of this world!

Kent,
Have fun out their in the Carolinas. A buddy is going to Daytona for the Nascar race, lucky punk. I may be moving to Ohio sometime in April or May so we really need to get to Bandimere before I leave! Take it easy!

I can tell you from experience that the Bitlmore House is awsome and the Blue Ridge Parkway is a must. I love to drive the L on the Parkway, the bike too. If you are in this area those two would be on my list. In Asheville you should eat dinner at the Grove Park Inn, Chops is really good. In SC Charleston is really cool, my girlfriend lives there and it is a blast everytime I go down there. Lots of war stuff, good food, cool buildings. Hit me an email if you want some more info about the area.

After the championship game, Ned told Rudy of his harrowing experience "down south", and why he could never hike the ball to him in the conventional manner.
he also recommended that when visiting the Carolinas, stick to NORTH Carolina
