Talking Wait is Over!

Just received a call from the fleet manager today and to my surprise my Red 2001 L is in. It was built on 1/30 and scheduled to arrive next week but came today instead. I can't wait till tommorrow morning to pick up the baby. I'm going to bring along my Sony digital camera to take lots of pics.
My first purchase for this baby will be a radar detector to keep me from meeting the local peace officers. I'm looking at a Bel 980 or a Escort 8500, leaning toward a Bel 980 cause I can pick one up for $225. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Were you not tracking your L's progress on the train? My L's arrival will not surprise me, I will know the moment it's on the train, and I will be there at the trainyard when they unload it.

Surfsup correction it is called Radar test.com It tests quite a few radar detectors. I wish I would have read this first. Bob.

Cool

Hey, guys!

I have some questions. I have tried to contact a few SVT dealers regarding this, but no one seems to want to answer.

1. How do you go about ordering one of these - just visit a SVT dealer?
2. How far in advance (of the new year's truck) should you order to ensure you get one?
3. I would like to test drive one (even if it is a 1999 or 2000), just to see what it is like before I order one in the future. It seems impossible to find these things on the lots. Any suggestions?
4. What is the estimated gas mileage?

Thanks in advance,
Melissa

Cool

Melissa:
1)Can only be ordered at an SVT dealer.
2)The sooner you order, the sooner ye shall receive.
3)Have to call around until you find one. Also check the classifieds, maybe somebody has one for sale that would let you test drive it. They are everything that people say they are.
4)12-13 around town, 15-17 highway. Do NOT buy this machine if you're buying to save money on gas. Even if it gets better mileage than what you currently drive it ONLY guzzles premium.

Melissa,Most dealers wont let you drive a brand new one because they like to sell them with minimal milage. But like 4D Thndr said you should be able to find a used one for a test drive. They are rockets so enjoy the ride of your life. Good luck. Bob.

Well, Melissa, I think it is a little more complicated than that. Its true that you can order from any SVT dealer, but some of them have much higher allotments than others (mine is getting 15 this year), and some will try to gouge you on the price while others won't, and some will even discount. So you need to shop for a dealer before you order a truck. I agree that its a good idea to test drive one. Since you drive an extended cab you need to know whether the L. has enough room for you, but you will be shocked at how fast it is. However, if milage is a big concern, you might want to reconsider, unless you have another daily driver. Compared to mine (9 mpg city, 12mpg hwy) 4D's figures are very optimistic, but then I have 4.10s and drive it pretty hard. I certainly like the beast, though, and since I need a tow vehicle I couldn't conceive of driving any other truck.

Thumbs up

Thanks everyone.
Frans-I tried tracking it with BNSF site but it would give me item not found.
SVT Bob-I've been to the radartest.com before and it was pretty helpful. The remote radar testing section is cool, wish I could get the Escort SR-1 but alittle too much($1200). I found a place that I can get it for only $550 but still alittle too high. How is your Bel 855tsi? The Whistler 3300 remote looks good too and I can get it for only $199.
Here are some pics of my truck at the dealer:

**Awesome** dealer pics. You must be VERY proud!

I am impatiently waiting for my Black '01, due on Feb 26th (it's on the train now!!). I have been bugging my dealer continuously for status since Oct/Nov, but they have exceeded my inquiries by providing additional info and staying in touch. Very cool, so I would like to mention Brian Camp at Bowen-Scarff in Kent, WA! They are totally on the ball when it comes to knowing about their product!
