Cool Lonely Lightning

Just an observation here. I almost never see Lightnings out on the road. I don't live in a big city, but the population is around 275,000 in the city itself and 575,000 total in the county.

I guess the Lightnings really are pretty rare, I haven't seen a another Gen 2 L around here since I met up with Ryan2KRedL back in December. Last time I saw a Gen 1 L was back in November. It was black.

I know Ryan is selling his truck and he was also the only Lightning owner I knew in my area.

So, the only Lightning I ever see is my Red 2000, and I now don't know anyone who owns another in my town.

BTW, I have never even seen a Silver L in person, and have only seen a White L once, as it went by the opposite direction on I-40.

The point of me saying all this is just that, at least in Raleigh NC, L's and especially Gen 2 L's are an extremely rare sight.

In comparsion, I see Dakota R/T's, Mustang GT's, Camaro SS's, Cobra's and Vette's and even the Z06 more.

mracer,

My sentiments exactly. I'm lucky to see a Gen 1 and I live in a Metro area. Last summer, I was the only Gen 2 at IRP. Other folks wanted to chat and have a gander, none wanted to race... (cannon fodder)

There are a couple folks that live near and I look forward to meeting them, racing, and kickin some GM a$$.

Exclusivity has its drawbacks, albeit they are small.

WFC4 here I come......

Same thing here in Phoenix. I never see them on the road. Only time I see others is when we arrange to get together at the track. On the way to work the other day, I saw 3 C5 Vettes, camaro's, T/A's and 5.9's Dakota's are all over here too.
That's just one more neat thing about the Lightning.

Exclamation

Looks like they shipped most of the L's to the left coast. Man, check out that California thread!

I love being in this truck. Today when I parked it at school, I got out, clicked the alarm, and some guys were talking to each other. "Is that a Lightning", "I don't think so", then I glady said, "yeah, it's a 2001 Lightning", and the went up close to take a peek. Of course I couldn't just leave my baby there with people so close to her, so I stayed and was late for class, but it's all worth it.

Cool

We Californians just have a finer aesthetic appreciation of vehicles than the rest of the country.

I live in the Portland Oregon, and I see G2's all over the place. All colors. I even saw a yellow one, not sure if it was a real lightning that had been painted or if it was a standard F150 made to look like a lightning. I didn't get a real good look cause he was in the fast lane doing about 80 and pulling a big car trailer. But it sure looked good in yellow whatever it was.
I drive for a living, perhaps that is why I see more lightnings. But it sure does seem like this area is saturated with them.
Oregon seems to attract people who are addicted to power and speed. We have sand dunes for the banshee crowds, snow in the hills for the thundercats, and plenty of water for whatever you have thats fast and floats. So I would imagine that anyone who has hobbies like those would naturally have to have a Lightning to satisfy their need for power during in between the weekends

I'm pretty sure Texas is thick with them, too. Last night there were three of us all together just by random chance. I was in mine when a silver 00 passed me and we both passed by a white 99 at a gas station. Not bad considering College Station is just over 100K.

Peter B,
You think Phoenix is bad, you should be in Tucson....I have seen one in the last 2 years. However, get this, I think I saw a Mystic painted one last Friday. It was Mystic for sure and had the same lower front grill as us, not the Roush or Steeda, but I only got to see it as I drove by at 45MPH....not something I could live with everyday but fine looking nonetheless...

As far as a dead city, only TWO attempts at a race for a whole year, once from a Tundra (no problem) and once from a TT 300zx (not a problem either...). I did see an extremely rare ML55 yesterday going 5 under in the slow lane for miles and miles and pretty clueless as to what I had...older guy just putting along...

I never see any L's gen 1 or 2. Nor will anyone race me. I live back in them thar hills of CA and NO ONE has any idea what it is. they all think I've put some aftermarket body work on. Some guy asked me if it was, I told him it was all stock, he didn't believe me. He had a TOY..ota truck so it wasn't worth wasting the gas on. The only guy who has known what it is was in a faux 427 cobra w/513ci. Of course there was too much traffic and he didn't get the chance to smoke my a$$. I would've diffentely raced him though

Mrracer- I'll be in Raleigh in April for a Nortel school, but I'll be bringing an MD-80 instead of my L

Peter B- you ought to check out Raleigh, they have these things that look like a saguaro cactus,,except with more "arms" and things called "leaves". I think they call them "trees".

I know what you mean. I live in Asheville, NC and never see G2 L's. I do go to Raleigh quite often, it could have been me you saw on 40. I have a white 99. I have seen a couple around here but in nearly 2 years I have only seen 3 in Asheville and 3 on 40 going to Raleigh. I guess we are far and few between.

Lots of Lightnings around Chicago! about a week ago, I seen 3 in one day, in my daily travels. One had a cap on the back. I wouldn't do it, but it was a nice cap. Since July when I bought my truck, I've seen at least 20-30 L's Lloyd
