HID Lights

Ok, I bought the silver star ultra night vision..blah blah blah..what can i say..i'm not too impressed at all!! So now I'm thinking about the HID conversion. I want that look that beamers, lexus's and all the high priced foreign cars have. So does anyone know where in south florida, I can buy them and have them installed cause I don't feel like taking on this project and how much do they usually run? thanks guys

The Phillips F150 Xenarc lights will be pretty much the only ones you want. They stopped making them over a year ago, so may be tough to find, if at all.

Most conversion kits do not put the focal point correctly in the light and end up creating tremendous amounts of glare which makes them, well, crap.

So search high and low for Xenarcs.

They're relatively easy to install as they replace the complete fixture.

I could be wrong, but I thought some law was phasing out the HID lights. If I remember correctly, dealerships aren't even allowed to replace burned out or damaged systems, they have to use conventional headlights.

This is from Yahoo Answers...

Unless you are doing a very expensive conversion, probably minimum $500 per lamp for proper housing, lens and ballast, the "H.I.D," lights you buy are either not street legal, or they are not true H.I.D. lights at all. Those "Euro" designed sets at $25 look like, but are not H.I.D., they are halogen bulbs with a small amount of Zenon gas added for a little whiter light.

Hope this helps - John

If they didn't come with a reflector/lens assembly (i.e., if they are just bulbs and ballasts), they in fact are either "crap" or "craplike," and in violation of federal law.

Harley, when I say crap, I mean their technical performance. Xenarc's were the ONLY DOT certified kit (aka -- LEGAL) built for the F150's.

Any HID kit will still "look" like HID lights, but if there were not built for our reflector assembly, they will glare like crazy and are functionally, crap --- which is one reason that law about banning their sale was made in the first place! (this most likely includes yours Harley guy)

There used to be a few HID manufacturers that strived to align the focal points, but the two that I know of are no logner in business.

The regular conversion kits will fit, they will "look" cool, and you'll dazzle every driver you drive past as they curse your existence just like most ricers.

there's been a sort of on going debate about projectors vs. no projectors, and my final conclusion has been that HIDs need to be properly leveled. that seems to solve 90% of the problems out there.

HID fixtures have a sharp z-shaped cutoff to avoid blinding oncoming traffic:

Leveling won't give you the required cutoff. That is only possible by retrofitting an HID projector assembly.
