Ball Joints?!? n000000000!

If theres another technical thread around this site that Im not aware of feel free to link it, but I need to get the full scoop on ball joint replacement before I begin. From what Ive heard for F1-through-350 truck owners is that that body style of truck inherently has bad ball joints at birth and that theyre gonna poop out around roughly 30k. I was also told by these owners and my saleman that Ford replaces them for free.
I bring this up because Im at 28k and getting that squeak/rub when I cut the wheel too far and I think its time to get em replaced.

What truck do you have?

On my Lightning the ball joints and tie rods gave me ZERO trouble for 70,000+ miles, I only changed them because I wanted to, there was no play in the old ones, and that was alot of hard mileage on NYC streets and highways.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense - Ford offers a 36,000 mile warranty on vehicles that "inherently has bad ball joints at birth and that they're gonna poop out around roughly 30k."

Maybe you should look for owners / salespeople with a clue, and then plan accordingly...

Does your truck need ball joints, or is this just a test ?

My truck needs ball joints! ....and tires again. 64K miles. Might as well get some new rods and a whipple while it's in the shop.

Your friend may be confusing ball joints with tie rod ends. There was a TSB issued with a revised tie rod inspection procedure, but I've never heard of a recall or free replacement program.

Like Tim said, there were issues with tie-rods, especially in areas that see excessive corrosion due to winter salt.

There are no issues with Ford ball joints on the F-150.

This thread confuses me. Here's how I see it:
  • BlueHornet asks non-stupid question.
  • Ian gives respectful response.
  • B-Man gives inexplicably hostile response.
  • tallimeca makes good natured joke.
  • Certified posts a general comment to the whole group.
  • I make my post.
  • BlueHornet makes a comment about the ****** (plural) and leaves.

Did he misunderstand tallimeca's joke, or my post, or was he really that jacked about B-Man's jabs?

B-Man, do you have a history with this guy? Why did you pop off like that?

The whole drama is a mystery to me.

Well, 1st off, I didn't mean for my reply to be hostile - it just seemed like a troll wanting to bust on Fords. I've seen (IMHO) your responses to folks for not using the Search button that seemed more hostile than mine ??

If I offended everyone, please accept my apology.
