Question what was the gen 2 lightning concept like?

just wondering what the gen 2 lightning concept was like? was it exactly as they are now? did it have the same engine, prelim hp numbers, etc? what was the overall reaction to it from the public?

i don't remember anything about it, just remember seeing the road tests when the 99s finally came out.

Htere were a few of them, and I know a guy wo bought one of them from the plant (we used it for a test truck for a year), but by the time he bought it it had a standard drivetrain in it, I have no idea what it was like before they sent it to Sharonville.

Back in Feb 98 they had an article in the paper and the truck looks almost the same in the picture as the '99s except for the hood looks like the aftermarket AAD Cobra hood. Rims look a little different but very close. As far as engine specs. 325 HP/450 Torque and they said they would get more HP. Traction control was a consideration...Thank god they never came out with it or else we wouldn't be able to smoke a $1400.00 set of tire in 15,000 miles.

I remember the initial articles that were coming out in 1998 saying that the engine was producing 425hp but that they were having problems keeping the trans alive. Said they would more than likely de-tune it to 375hp. Guess they missed a bit.
I had a Dakota R/T at that time and remember trying to figure some way I could convince my wife that I needed to trade-in the R/T for the L. Of course the Chrysler buy-back solved that problem.
