1st time to the drag strip - any tips

Folks,

I am braving my first trip to Santa Pod drag strip here in the UK this weekend. I do not want to hurt the truck but want to race - do you have any tips ??

What happen to the good old days ; o ( 25 people read the post and not one gave advise.

deadmic8, I'm going to assume your truck is stock and your running stock tires and rims ???
The most important things are:
#1 COOL IT DOWN LONG ENOUGH (if you drive it there, at least 1-2 hours)
#2 Drop your rear tires to AT LEAST 22 - 25 psi (may have to go even lower)
#3 Bring your front tires up to about 40 PSI
#4 Do a long burnout, (you need to heat the schitt out of the F-1's)
(go around the water box w/ your front tires, then back in to the water, then spin them and get out of the water, THEN power brake it a nice long time)
#5 DONT PRE LOAD IT, Foot on the Brake and when it's time MASH IT to the floor
#6 Of course use the proper Octane for you tune and if you dont have a custom tune still use 93 - 100 Octane. Tank should be at least 1/4 filled but actually a tad more is even better

#7 HAVE FUN.....

Good Luck

Everything he said.

Might even remove your front sway bar for better weight transfer.

Make sure it's nice and cool out and have fun.

not sure of the laws on that side of the pond but you might need a helmet and if not it is a good idea anyhow for safety.

I would agree with all that except heating up the F1's.

Don't know how hot your weather is there but what I have done in the past is bring several bags of ice in a cooler(helps keep the beer cool also ) and wrap a bag in a towel and place it on the intake between runs. Some guys even use a "cool can" which is a can of ice with the fuel line coiled up inside. Enjoy

I iced my intake down with a bag of ice, and rolled out easy, then mashed it. If you stomp it right out of the gate your going up in smoke, at least I did anyway.

My first time at the track it was about 85 degrees and no ice I ran

13.72 @ 100.594
13.68 @ 101.379
13.68 @ 101.089

The next week we had unusually cool air, it was about 68 degrees I ran

13.26 @ 104.487

They love cool air. I also pulled the paper air filter out on this run although it's not recomended. Oh and I didn't do any long burnout, I just power-braked it enough to turn the tires a couple times over but I have Hankooks on mine so maybe they don't need as much heat as the F1's or maybe it would have hooked better who knows.

Thanks Guys

Good advice, I guess my big questions have been answered, . I should have said, my truck is mostly stock and is more of a show truck, but will still put it on the strip...will put up my times and some picks....

One final question - how much fuel should I run with (i was thinking 1/4 tank or less??)

Thanks !!

I agree. I would not heat up the F1's at all. After a little heat they become liquid...

I dunno how new you are @ the track but these may help:

http://www.bandimere.com/free/dragRacing.php

I'd just clean off (a short burn out) the F1's instead of melting them down in the burn out box

I had the truck for nearly 3years and clocked up a massive 900miles in the three years!! However never been to the strip, so I am fresh as the come...the stip is holding the event (MOPAR Nationals) which is being held this weekend and thought it would good to blast the mule against the MOPAR's,

Thanks for the advice, i am sure I will forget everything or do just fine. Will keep you posted

Deadmic did great for his first time out. I'll let him tell you how he did.

Of course, he parked between a couple of pro's and soaked up all the top tips
