In No. calif: Chevron

In So. Calif: no idea, but Chevron does not work well.

And Spike's not kidding... he runs Wal-mart gas sometimes... with no problems (Danny's chip)

Cool

The cheapest 92 octane I can find, usually Arco or USA. Never had any detonation problems with Danny's chip.

The gas companies use the same base gas, yet the additives that they use to acheive a specific octane rating are different. I have tried different fuels and haven't had pinging problems with any of them.

Between 0 - 5000 miles, I used Costco almost all the time. I am now using Beacon, but will be switching to Arco at 10,000 miles.

I read an article a while back written by a chemist that worked for one of the Oil Companies. The thrust of the article was deposits that build up from the use of one specific brand of gasoline and how to prevent excessive build up. In summary, it stated that using ONE brand of gas for a while (several thousand miles), deposits will have been formed in the fuel system. At that point, it is best to switch to another brand. Since the formulation is different, the cleaning agents will dissolve the old deposits, and at the same time form new ones. The article stated that rotation from one brand to another in 5000 mile intervals is the best way to prevent excessive build up of gasoline deposits in the fuel system. Of course, if a specific brand of gas causes pinging, don't use it.
