Question Calling Yoda, modd69, XCheyennesuper

I come in to work, look through all the posts and you guys haven't posted how Speedworld was last night. So, what were the results.
Yoda, did you get into the 12's?

Peter
Last night was my first time at a track and I had a blast. Yoda and modd69 were very helpful to me. The main problem I had was spinning the ties for the first 100 feet down the track. I found if I didn't bite the bullet and really smoke the tires in the staging I wouldn't get any grip. Anyway I am stock except for the new JL flip chip, Last night I ran the street side. I had 2 good runs, one 13.74-100.92 and one at 13.61-101.59. I think I could do better with a little more experience.
Thanks Yoda and modd69 for all your help last night. There were three guys there last night from SVE talking about the L's and they have the final word on the leaking inter-coolers. They say we will all get 2001's. Yoda and modd69 talked more in detail to them so maybe they can post more info.

Thumbs down

no. weather conditions werent that favorable (high humidity, baram pressure below 30) + little wind that wasnt helping. I could only muster 13.3's & .4's! My trap speed was also down 1-2mph. @ 103' (I did 1 run @ 104.0x), down from 104-105. So i wasnt happy about my runs. I wasnt expecting 12's "yet" though. I was hoping 4 13.2's though.

Get this a few guys from "SVE" showed up though!! These are the guys that BUILT the Lightning, designing it etc..... They knew ALL about it, they were ratteling of specs.... We talked to them for about an hour or so. They showed up just b4 9pm, & taped my last run against Ross, & he said he will e-mail me the race (of course I screwed up my launch & ran a crappy 13.5). BTW these guys watch our board, they take in all the comments suggestions etc.... They asked us "if you could change anything, what would it be?". Was really neat talking to the people that made our beast!!!!! You should have been there just for that! Joel would have loved to talk the the "techies", since they knew a lot of specs for our trucks. They knew all about the new 01 intercooler, since we talked in depth about it. Anyways, to bad you missed out, was fun to be there & run.

Oh man, I wish I would have been there. I just figured w/o a chip there was not much need for me to go. You guys are crackin me up--ran a crappy 13.5--geez, yeah those are really turtle times, you guys better get with the program and learn how to drive!

Went to the RC track and while there, Sal called. He discussed programming of my chip and was burning it last night. It will be shipped out today! I'm also gonna go with the lower pulley and driveshaft loop.

Are you guys planning on next Wed?

I had a blast!! I always enjoy meeting fellow L owners. It's fun when you have someone to race against that is in the same class. Last night was really tough conditions, I had a best run of 13.577@101.725 60'@2.042 with no chip on street tires. If Yoda could only put his wallet aside and burn those f-1's. Yeah, those SVE guys were fun to yell at, but I'm sorry guys I had to vent my frustration to someone at ford and you just happened to walk up to me. They asked us what we liked and what we didn't like. I told them I want a dual overhead cam motor with a 6-speed manual transmission. I failed to mention I want 1000HP and all wheel drive. Anyhow I hope they have a good time at driving school, it's funny how Ford engineers need to be taught how to drive (Just kidding). You SVE guys are OK in my book. We missed you peter and Joel, you guys need to get off your buts and get out to the track.

Oh, before I forget I got my JL chip today so look for a post on sunday. I might just have a new fastest time posted.

Burn them and Launch hard!!!

modd69,
Not to contradict your thinking. But I have been told by my friend who has done tons of research and investigating on mods, etc (he just built a 383 and planted it in his jeep CJ7 and now he looking to add a blower, but anyhow). He told me that heating up a "street tire" actually makes them more slippery. He said there is something about the rubber compound that causes the oils to escape and creep to the surface making them more slick. He said on a true slick or drag radial the compound is different and they of course require heating. So now you are gonna argue and say--yeah but look at the times I'm posting--well, maybe it's you're truck and you behind the wheel are just the bee's knees. What have your results been w/o burning out. Oh, and what do you mean conditions were tough?--a 13.577 with no chip, at 1250 ft altitude--damn that is a very respectable time.

So hey guys, so why were the SVE guys at Speedworld. Do they watch this board and then go to a track when they know Lightnings are gonna be there? That just blows me away that they were there. How many of them were there? Ah, maybe Yoda give me a call and we can gab rather than tie up board time.

Hey Peter,

What I mean about tough conditions is that the weather wasn't the greatest. We had low pressure and high humidity. The altitude at speedowrld is around 1400 ft, but with the conditions we had and after talking to some pro guys testing out there they calculated the altitude at around 2500 ft.

As for the burnout with street tires, just ask Yoda what kind of times he was running with no burnout and with a burnout. It's clear the F-1s get very sticky with a slight burnout, I have run 60-foot times in the 1.9's with a burnout, where without I have run 2.3's. I agree that some street tires might just do what your friend has said, but it is clear the F-1s get very sticky. Try it yourself and see.

hey Peter, modd69 is correct on heating up the tires. When I heat them up a bit, I get 2.0X 60' times. Without doing that I get 2.1-.2'! The problem (I think) is it there is a fine line between hooking them up & sittin' there spinning them (even after heated up). When i give them a good burn (like I did when you & I went & I posted those 13.2x times) I was really getting them hot. Without doing that I could never get better than a 2.1. I still think I can even get into the 1.9x', with a little more practice, I think I am bogging it a little when I take off. I just cringe every time I burn them up (again I see the $$$ signs as the smoke blows by me). Ya I know, its not like cant afford new tires, its just the principle!! Anyways, Peter, next time out, youll have to try it to see for yourself.

The SVE guys were flown in from Dearborn, they are spending the next few days having fun @ Bondurant (courtesy of Ford mind you, lucky bastards) & they saw that I had posted that we would be going out, so they showed up! Man what I wouldnt do for a job with Ford to help design & test cars!!!

Very cool info guys. I'll have to really heat them up next time I go. I tried alittle bit the night I was there w/modd69, but he was saying it still was not nearly enough smoke. I think that oil rising to the surface deal is happening on my Vette tires, well, actually, doesn't seem to matter, no matter what I do it is impossible to keep it hooked up.

That is way too cool with the SVE guys being out here and reading the post and then showing up. What an information super highway we live in.

Hopefully when I get home after work my chip will be there, if not, it will be tomorrow. I can't wait to see how Sals new program runs. Hopefully I can get the lower pulley before the weather starts to warm.
