Post Spanked An IROC Z

Came upon black IROC Z with oversize rear tires, exhaust, decals, mean looking. Raced twice from a start. At about 120 MPH, he was many, many car lengths back each time. Not like killing a C5 vette, but a fun kill none-the-less.

YUeah, wash it the 5.0 IROC or the 5.7 IROC? I am sure that you would kill either one but I would think that the 5.7 would stay a little closer than, MANY CAR LENGTHS BEHIND. I am just wondering.

Just so you know,Even the 5.7s would be way back. They are just 15 second vechicles. You can usually beat them with a stock shortbed chevy 350 pick up (96-on) at least I have many times.

I have to disagree. I had a '91 Z28 for several years with the 350 tpi. With a chip, exhaust mods and larger throttlebody it was FAST. The year I got rid of it I was stompin' '96 cobras. Maybe 15 sec stock, but with $700 in mods definately closer to the lightning. A chip alone was worth a solid 45 hp, just ask our friendly superchips distributer.

Back in September when I first got the L and it had about 500 miles on it I raced a friend who had a 92 Camaro 5.7/auto with 150,000 miles and no mods except a single 3" exh and he pulled me every time. I was so disappointed that I came very close to taking the truck back and leaving it on the dealers lot! My truck ran 9.20 in the 1/8 that very weekend. He sold the camaro before I got the chip and some miles but there is no way that same car could beat me now. I went 8.50 in the 1/8th this past weekend on a greasy track.

so with a chip, throttle and exhaust mods you "stomped" 96 cobras (which are high 13 second cars)? please elaborate on the exhaust mods that made your 15 second car jump to low 13s (if you "stomped" 96 cobras).

I have a 1985 Z28 with the 305TPI. I have had it since 1987. She only has 50,000 miles on her. I have all the bolt on stuff and free mods. She runs easy low 14 sec times. Stomps on a 1996 cobra yes.
I also fitted a 100 shot of the juice, no times with it yet but she runs even with the LS1 cars. Probably good for very low 13s or high 12s with a little luck.

my 89 formula,235 h.p. 350 ran 14.6 @ 94mph stock. with a chip, 1.6 roller rocker, large tube runners, and a flow master it ran 13.8 @ 99. i think 91 saw the 350 go to 245h.p. 14.4 to 14.5, should be no problem.

well even if his Z ran 14.4-14.5 bone stock (which would be an absolute perfect run) it jumped down to low 13s (if he stomps 96 cobras which are easily high 13 sec cars) with only a throttlebody, chip and exhaust mods? thats some chip i guess. i am just saying i bet he is forgetting some more mods.

I put a coffee can tip and a big decal and got 45 HP too...Seriously Chevy must suck with computers if a chip alone is 45HP...

Of course, I don't know which model it was, but from the sound/looks, I would guess that it was not stock. I didn't expect a great competition, because I used to beat them with my '85 stock Stang. I was sorry it was dark, because I always like to see the look on their defeated faces!

my 89 formula ran 13.8 with a 1.98 60 ft and a 99 mph trap speed, dont car if you believe it or not. some had 1 convertor and some had 2, mine had two. some came with a 2.77 rear ends, some came with a 3.27, mine had the 3.27.
as far as major mods? try a 383 with airflow heads(12.50 @ 112, 1.7 sixty foot)thats what it runs now, not counting the 150 compucar nitrous.
