new lightning or new WS-6
hey everyone! i am new here and have always been a L fan. was going to buy a 2002 WS-6 since it is the last year and all, but they canceled yellow at the last minute
now i am trying to decide between these two cars...what do you think(i am guessing i will get a lot of L replies
also, can a lightly modded L beat a Ls1? thanks for any information.

GET THE WS-6 !!!!!!!!!!!!! It will be an instant collector's item. On the other hand, if you want to buy strictly for performance, GO WITH THE WS-6 as well!!! That car, when driven properly can brake 13 in the quarter STOCK. The latest numbers on the "L" give it stock numbers anywhere from 13.6 to 14.4 !!! In a street race, and I have seen two or three, between an "L" and an "LS1", the LS1 R-O-M-P-S !! If you mod either one, they will move quicker, but the LS1 easily takes mods. Slap a s/c on an LS1 and you are in the 11's. The "L" is not even a good vehicle in the winter, so the two rides are even there. Trucks are made to work, and the "L" is only a wanna-be racer, IMHO.

First an L with a chip and filter with most likely beat any stock LS1 out there.
I have heard the stories of GM getting rid of the f bodies, but is it really going to happen. If so then thats a hard choice their. I still think I would buy an L, because of the exclusivity of the truck. Plus the L has allot more room in it.
We have great websites?
Me I would take my L over just about any vehicle out there, with aome exceptions. like a 911, ferrari, diablo, viper, you get my point. the lightning in my eyes isn't even in the same class as the LS1.

I got rid of a 96 Ws6 a few months ago. Nice ride and the new ones are supposed to be better. Stock for stock the car will be a little quicker than the truck. The car feels like a rocket with the low center of gravity but there is nothing like a 2 1/2 ton pickup truck that runs just as fast! Bottom line is do you want a bada$$ car or a bada$$ truck? Both are awesome.

That depends.....what do you want, a car or a truck? GTP, your opinion didn't sound that "humble" to me. The L is no wannabe, it's a serious performance vehicle, just like the WS-6 is, only a thousand pounds heavier and more utilitarian. If I had the money, i'd own both, but the L does everything i need and want it to do and then some. I really don't see how you could go wrong with either vehicle.
I would talk with WHAT04, he has both. I plan on purchasing a 2002 WS6 as well. I am gonna keep the L though. The wife wants one and I wouldn't mind driving it either.

I seriously had to look at the first post date, because when I saw GTP_Rules, I thought, is this 4 months ago? Nope. I consider this thread already done.

That's not a cut and dry question. it depends on your needs. Being a proud owner of both a 2000 L and a 2000 WS6 6sp, if I was asked to give one back, I'd keep the Lightning hands down. (My wife would have my nut$) But I'm 6'4" and pushing a lean 300lbs and don't exactly fit the WS6.
Both are a lot of fun to drive. Both use premium fuel, but the L uses about 50% more for the same range. The WS6 has a better stereo and very cool seats. We are able to have two kid's seats in the back of the WS6.
The L is far more exclusive and a blast to drive. I think it's also quite a bit tougher.
I don't know. Tough call. My vote is for the Lightning.

i have a 1995 supercharged mustang that would probably go if i got the WS-6(no need for 2 fast cars). it wouldn't be a daily driver and i am used to putting premium in everything so that is not that big of a deal. i have had tons of stangs and fast cars but never had a truck. it's not that i need a truck for anything just want a new toy
i am great friends with a NX dealer so if i did go with the L and put the NX on it i should be able to beat modded Ls1's and they would never even know about the juice
thanks for all the replies!

Just remember - you gotta run juice to beat LS1's...true, very true.

Just remember to read the whole statement first. "modded" LS1's require that a L has juice bottles. SOunds like and even match to me. You guys get superchargers, we get juice. We'll win tho-!!!

The answer to your question depends on your needs. Stock for stock, the LS1 and the '01 Lightning should be very even in the 1/4, but due to aerodynamics the LS1 will be faster (but how often do you want to go over 145?).
The LS1 will carry more people, and get much better gas milage. However, if like me you need to tow a 6500 lb. boat, or haul a lot of stuff from Green Thumb and Home Depot, the issue isn't even in question.
