Line-level converters?
they connect to your speaker wires.
i've spliced some into the rear speaker wires on both sides to get a low level before. (not on my truck, i used to install stereo stuff for a living)
after reading your post again: you want to keep the stock head unit & add an amp and possibly new speakers?
if you want to do all 4 speakers, i'd pull the raido out & connect the converters there (is there room?). then, run the RCA cables to the amp.
then you have 2 choices: from the amp, either run new wire to all 4 speakers, or run 4 sets of wire to behind the raido & hook into the stock wiring.
the choice is up to you.
i'd run new wire, but thats just me. i'm ****.

forgot..
if you are just wanting to add a amp & sub,
you can tap into the rear speaker wires at the base of the rear pillar & connect your converter there.
then you'll need a crossover to filter out all the high/mids.

I want to run an amp off the stock radio. I know I need some line level (or high level) converts in order to do this. I assume these plug into the back of the head unit some how and then leave you with a set of RCA plugs. Is this correct? And is the rest of the amp install the same as usual? Do I still need to run wires to the speakers? Or will these line level converts take care of that?
Thanks
John

Might want to pick out an amp first as some amps have high(line) level inputs in the amp..

Where in the Boston Area are you?
I am in Waltham, my L should be here in about 4 weeks, I may use my stock radio and hook it into my amp too. It all depends if I can find a adaptor to hook the cd changer into my Alpine deck. If I put the Alpine in the L I have some adaptors I could sell you.
What kind of speekers are you planning to put in? I have the focals and love them.
