VR4 ,LS1 etc
Went out for a little run in search of some fun. First race was with a mid 90s Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo and a 1999? VR4. This started when the VR4 lunged a few times at me. This caught the attention of the Z who followed. Well we turned and lined up at a 20mph roll. We all hit it at about the same time. I pulled about 1 car length on the VR4 and about 3 on the Z I think. It was hard to see him for the VR4. This was up to about 80mph. Talked a little with the VR4 guy. Pretty cool. Asked what HP the truck has etc. They proceeded to race a few more times. By the way that VR4 sure lifts the nose high when he punched it. I had a 250lb passenger with me the Z and VR4 were driver only. The same with the race below the Trans-am was driver only.
Next was a LS1 Trans-am. We went from a 20mph roll. I pulled ½ car on him until he power shifted to second. That brought him up even then I pulled away a little until we had to hit the brakes at around 70-75mph. Dam that LS1 was loud. Looked like it had stock tail pipes though. Was a stick.
These LS1s seem to really hit it at high revs and then have to build a little after they shift. Are most like that or did he just shift poorly? Seemed like he shifted good to me though.

I own a '91 300zx twin turbo and a lightning. I do not believe rolling at 20mph that your lightning had three car lengths on a Z. A stock 300zx builds boost at 2700 rpm which is easily reached while rolling and pulls stronger from there. While the power exhibited by the Lightning is very deceptive it would not pull a 300zx while both rolling. It would be easily possible at a standing start, because the 300zx is very difficult to launch from a stop. If the Z was modified as most are now it would be very hard to pull away from one rolling between 20-30 mph.

Well I did, I raced the same Z from a stop - 90mph last week and had one car on him all the way. The only differance now is I have fitted the JDM chip. The last time I had no chip. I talked with the Z owner last week. He said the Z was pretty much stock except for the two huge mufflers and tailpipes. He also stated he was running 10.5Ib boost. (Stock?)Anyway I posted the race as it happend. If you do not believe me that is up to you. I do not Lie or feel the need to Lie After all this is such trivial stuff.Only a fun street race. I only posted to share with other performance vehicle owners. There are many reasons why a race can turn against any vehicle. Maybe the Z is a little tired.
When I watched it go from a roll a few times with the VR4 the Z always lost a car from the get go.

My races with a stock and chipped L against a 300ZX was always a couple or more lengths on the Z initially, and then the Z would haul me in on the top end. This was less so from a roll, but I would decline if we were fast enough to prevent me from going into 1st.
Blacklight, That's correct. Before I got the chip a race from a 30mph roll against a strong car ended in a game of catch up for the L as it would not kick down. Now with the chip it's much better and I usually pull from the get go with a very fast down shift. By the way the JDM chip also has a very strong high end.
