Cool Intercooler Fix on the way?

I talked with the service writer on my intercooler today. He asked how much the intercooler was leaking etc... Said that if I could wait until late March or early April the retrofit for the 99s and 00s would be available. After some discussion, he agreed that my intercooler was probably leaking too much to wait that long. They decided to remove it, test, and replace as needed with standard intercooler replacement. Don't go nuts with this information, just thought I'd pass it on...or something.

We had a chat with Tom Scarpello from Svt last night. I asked him directly if there was a intercooler fix comming. He said there was a modified 2001 intercooler comming to cure the problem. He also said the leaking was only happening on "less than 1%" of the trucks. kind of funny that all 1% is on this board, and some of you are even on your second intercooler.

bggroth - How did you get ahold of the head of SVO marketing? Just work your way up the chain of command?

It looks like you have one of the prototype intercoolers. Have you tested it yet? The assumption is that it will not leak but what about air flow. Is it better or equal to the 99/00 original production unit? Is it equal to the improved flow of the 2001 unit? Do you have any testing results. Thanks.

95, No A Mustang club I belong to had a chat session with him Sunday night. He was real nice and didn't dodge the hard questions. Of course there were questions he couldn't tell us the answers to, but they that was expected.

Mike,
sorry for the late reply. It is the replacement unit for the 99-00 L's. We have not done any testing with it yet,and to be honest...by looks alone, it looks to be more "restrictive" than the others. I cannot compare it to the 2001 unit, I have not seen one in person....yet.

This one pictured is acutally for a JDM customer that has had the problem a few times. I plan to possibly install a new "prototype" unit that Jim had made with great results...not to mention better flowing as well

whitelightnin,
Only reason for the frowny face, is because I believe that they will leak again...and again..and agian...LOL

LeenSVT,

1. Open the bonnet
2. Locate the Intercooler reservoir.
3. Mark the fluid level with an official Spinal Tap "sharpie" or equivalent.
4. Drive said vehicle.
5. Check often.

--or--

Take your beast to the dealer and request a "dye test." They will put some fluorescent dye in the reservoir, send you on your merry way, and have you come back in a week or so as they will put a black light in the engine compartment and check for illumination.

Spiro, Please update the board when your replacement is available. If the "new and improved fix" is more restrictive and a HP loss is observed damn Ford. We wish to have an increase in HP or no change. A decrease in HP is simply unacceptable. Popular sources tell us it is not the intercooler that is weak it is the maniford structure encompassing the intercooler that has a tendency to flex, thus causing the brazes at the headers to fatigue and eventually develope pin hole leakage....

Question

I have to bring my truck in to have the intercooler problem fixed. What kinda damage can I expect to the engine or supercharger from this leak?
I dont want them to just replace the part and there have been damage to my engine that I will not notice right away.Heck I really dont want those butchards to hack apart my engine at all...
