My first kill was a 00' JAguar XJR. the next light I got my second: a convertible auto C5 vette.
Woman at the wheel, I got a better start and pulled her and her man (ridding shotgun) to about 80 and shut it down. they blew by a second later and then wanted to try racing from 60. Sorry, my truck's not fast from 60-80 like a vette is. I know that dead starts ae the L's trump card and I had already won. They didn't wave, so neither did I: I laughed and turned left.

From what I noticed at the track... (I'ma non L owner)
Stock for Stock, LS1's and L's are almost identical if they launch good (Auto Trannys in the LS1s are much easier to launch) If you get someone at a light with a 6 speed, you pretty much have a victory unless you go for top speeds...
As far as mod'd goes... depends on mods...
Bro has a 99 T/A with auto, 3.23 gears, stock rubber, ram air hood (not a WS6), Hypertech (dyno'd 2HP less than stock tuning), whisper air lid, and exhaust cutout right before flowmaster muffler (worth 15HP)
I was driving his car at the track last year, and pulled a 12.84@108 with those mods, low 1.9 60' time...
4D Thunder has hit the 12's with I think a Chip n Filter and ram air...
I think races on the interstate would give most LS1's the win, and from a light, the L... Just my .02

I am currently 3-0 vs LS1's.
The first street race that I ever got in my 00 L was against my friends 98 T/A A4. His mods were at the time strut bar brace, one chamber flowmasters and the free mods. My only mod was a Superchip. We raced twice each 1/4 mile. I would pull him two cars out of the hole and stay their all the to the 1/4 mile mark. We did this twice with the same results each time. You would think that his car would start catching up around the 1/8 mile mark due to the wind resistance on
my truck but it didn't.

Go to the Kills forum on www.ls1.com. A bunch of L owners and LS1 people are debating this issue as we speak. 100+ posts so far, but the thread is starting to degrade into an insult battle.

The May '00 issue of Hot Rod did a comparo of a Lightning vs. a 'vette. The 'vette was about 0.4 second quicker in the 1/4, approx. 13.3 to 13.7. I think these figures are very representative of what you would get with a well tuned, well driven example of each vehicle. It boggles the mind that a full size pick 'em up can do so well against a purpose built sports car over 1000 lbs. lighter with vastly better aerodynamics. And of course with a few inexpensive mods the L. is more than a match for a C5. Conditions were not optimal on the day I ran 13.39. There was a stock L. there running 14.1s, and two C5s. One ran 13.6 and the other 13.8. So at least on that particular day the LT1s were quicker than a stock L., but slower than my modified one. Tomorrow I get shift kit installed, and TB is on order, so next time I expect to be quicker. But Holeshot is right, don't try any high speed roll ons, the aerodynamics will kill you. But a 10 mph roll would be ideal.
