Smile Intercooler fixed!!

Dropped the truck off at the dealer at 8:00 am and got a call at 1:00 to pick it up. I was a little worried at first, but I talked to the mechanic and he said it was easy. I looked at the IC and didn't see any sign of a leak. I figured I would see some milking around it, but it was clean. I was only losing about a quart every three weeks, so maybe I shouldn't see anything. The mechanic said the plugs and the O2 sensor looked fine, although he also said he only pulled one plug from each side of the engine. The one thing I do notice is that I'm not making the boost I was making before the fix. My gauge would go to about 11 oclock and now it stops at 10psi. I can't figure that one out!
Now all I need is my JL chip

Unfortunately, now you can worry about when that intercooler goes South - which it probably will.

Question

Got a card from my dealer today saying that the intercooler had come in. So I called SVT and asked them whether it was possible that this was one of the new and improved i/s. They said no, that the "fix" was not going to be available until sometime this spring (how's that for specificity?). So I don't know whether to have it fixed, or wait until the new part is available. What do the rest of you think?

I'm going to wait. If spring really means mid summer I'll be pissed! I want it fixed right so there is no problems later on.

alphadoggy,

You know the answer to your question!! Put it off as long as you can. If you have any doubts, just keep re-visiting clonetek's post. And that was just a friggin' alignment!!!!!!!

they dropped my truck when they were going to fix the clunk & replace the oil pressure sending unit. it fell off a lift, not off the alignment rack.

Cool

modd69,

You probably need to adjust you boost actuator. They probably just bolted it back in place. They are not going to take the time to fine tune it.

clonetek,

My bad. Sorry for the misinformation in my post. I had the pic of your truck on the alignment rack in my mind when I typed that. Either way, it's still bad and unthinkable. Your attitude about the whole thing still impresses me.

I know they replaced my IC with the bad design, but at least it wont leak for another 13000 miles. I think you guys should get it replaced even if it isn't the cure. I mean would you rather coolant leaking into your engine for another couple of months?? SVT told me they will replace the IC even after hte warranty has expired.

I'm with you. Just had mine fixed with the old style cooler. I'd rather they fix it twice than drive it with water flowing through the cumbustion chamber. Just my.02.
