Post New Mod - Definate seat of the pants difference

I have had problems with both the R9 and the PSP 4 way making noise that has been described as timing chain rattle or minor detonation when going from cruise to acceleration. I fixed the problem this weekend. As soon as I put a brand new 6 foot fiberglass ladder in the bed and closed the snug lid the truck ran so much better.

I cant explain it but I guarantee it will be worth 2 tenths at least.

Plus I got a great deal on the laddder and I have wanted one for a while now.

I tried the ladder, but it didn't work nearly as well as the shop-vac.

I'm not kidding... The truck runs a hellof a lot better.

Lets see Thursday I got the truck back from Dealer who replaced the intercooler, but didnt replace plugs or sensors. Friday I put 104 octane boost in. Sunday I filled up with Mobil premium ( after running Texaco for a long time ), and bought a Ladder. Monday the truck is ruuning great. It must have been the ladder.

Lets see do I have to disconnect the battery when putting the ladder in on the dyno to be sure I get fair numbers ??

I will get pictures of the ladder tomorrow

What brand is it? I need to replace mine, a 7 footer. It flew out over the tailgate after nailing the throttle one day. Kinda of shocked the guy behind me. He said he's never seen a ladder get airborne so quickly.

Better be careful with that ladder Doug. Last time I played with a fiberglass ladder I broke 5 ribs and poked a hole in a lung. I'd never seen fiberglass bend before, but I sure warped the whole thing. I stick to aluminum now.

Spike,

Let's go round the town and burn down some peach-e Extremes. Or we can go to spruzo and try to race teens with their WS6's across from the police station.

By the way, I'm in black now, with a pro sport cover.

I'm adding the Daytons/fuzzy dice/kicker tubes/hydrolics next week.

Better yet, we could rev our engines in front of Supercuts when the Bullet Bikes meet there.

I like your mods. I'm turning my bed into one big subwoofer. Although completely useless, it'll go boom boom boom real loud.

Doug,

You stole that ladder, didn't you? And now you're "driving it like you stole it!" And your truck knows you're guilty and is keeping you from harms way! j/k

Moonshine is right about the fiberglass ladders. They're light and cool but do break, so be careful.

Thanks for the concern guys but the new ladder is 400% better than the 10 year old cheap wooden one that it replaces.

A former coworker got fried by an aluminum extension ladder and power lines so I stay away from aluminum.

The point of this post was to show the ridiculous connections some people make between some mod real or imagined and the results obtained. Bolting on any mod mqking one run and going 1 or 2 tenths faster and claiming that it is because of the mod is crazy. I have never seen a Lightning hook up reliably enough to make those kinds of assumptions. There is always at least a tenth or 2 variance from one run to another. If you made 100 baseline runs the same day and then bolted on the mod and made a hundred more and averaged them and compared the averages, then you could make a case that the mod was the cause....
Sorry for attempting humor and ending up straying from topic.... The ladder is still in the back and my truck still runs great !!
Doug

Whew! I figured next we'd all have carbon fiber ladders in the back...
