Question Exhaust questions

Anyone out there have definitive answers on stock exhaust vs. aftermarket cat-back systems? I'm a new member and am seriously considering purchasing a 2001 L; however, I have test driven a 2000 L and the stock exhaust note leaves a lot to be desired. I have looked at old posts and the general consenus is there is no significant power gains to be made in this area. I've read that power gains are negligible at best, and even read mag articles where HP has been lost. What's up? I have owned several normally aspirated and supercharged Mustang 5.0's and have always gotten at least 15 HP from cat-back exhaust alone. Is the stock exhaust that good?

I took off my muffler, and I love the sound. I also lost .2 in the 1/4 mile. But thats just me.

You've pretty much answered your own question. Put Flows on mine strictly for the sound effects. Much prefered over the Escort muffler that comes on them.

4D Thunder,

What part # Flowmaster muffler did you install? I have seen some companies that sell cat-back w/ Flowmasters installed in MM&FF (mufflex comes to mind) that integrate two mufflers. Not sure if they are the old 40 series 2-chamber or 3-chamber or the Delta Flows. Let me know if there is the ever present 2000 rpm drone or not with your setup. Thanks
