Non-L race, well sort of..
I was out shakin' the cobb webs off the 69 Vette Saturday afternoon while waiting in anticipation for the 01L to come in (gotta get that HP infusion!!). I pulled up to a stop light at an intersection. Low and behold a 99 Cobra pulled up next to me. He revved his motor and gave me a classic "lets do it!" look. I figured what the he!!. The light turned and he nailed it. I eased into first so as not to flash the tires and short-shifted to second at 2500 RPM and gave it some more throttle. I then proceded to speed shift to 3rd....w-e-l-l, I missed third and went to fifth (real skill, huh?) The revs dropped down to 2000. I said screw it..and just mashed the gas in fifth. AT 100 mph I still had him by a good 10 lengths. Ain't torque great.

Geez!! Good thing you didn't decide to pound 'The Bottle' too. If you did you mighta sucked that little Cobra right down the throat of your carb and spit it out the 3" exhausts!!
You gotta get us some strip times for ALL your cars! That '69 sounds like it'll be very quick. Whatcha got done to the '98?

I've seen Undy's '69 Vette over on the Vette forum. It's a beautiful car...not just a clapped out tin can with a big motor in it. A man after my heart, I'll tell you that. Gotta love the show AND go.
Undy, I have to ask...what kind of trans are you running in that thing? I am guessing a Doug Nash 5 or 6-speed.
I have to really take it easy when people want to race me from a dead stop in my LX. I run some 17" (low profile) Nitto drag radials on it all the time, but if I get the tires smoking in 1st I am in trouble. I would much rather race from a 20mph punch where I lug the motor in 2nd gear and go from there...still WA 2 much TQ and its funny b/c the way the car is geared I don't have to shift into 3rd until ~75mph.
Glad to hear you drive your beast! Too many people (including me sometimes) leave them in the garage.

D'oh...if I'd only read _thoroughly_ through the sig I'd have seen the ROD 6-spd.
How do you like the aluminum flywheel? I'm running a billet steel (very heavy) one, and have been tempted to try an aluminum one next time I change a clutch. I'm interested in your own thoughts on the theory of running a steel one vs. an aluminum one...especially in a 1/4 mile type car. I've heard it argued both ways about which is better.

WA 2 FST,
The aluminum flywheel allows the engine to spin up much faster. Throttle blips are a lot more fun... In talking to Red, chief tech for McLeod, he recommends an aluminum flywheel for any engine producing in excess of 400hp. I've never been dissatisfied with mine. This is my second aluminum flywheel.
