Post Is It Safe To Run ET Street's On The Street?

I am thinking about purchasing a set of 26x10.50x16ET Street's and was wondering if these are safe to run on the street? I will only be using these on the streets only for a couple of street races that I have lined up in the spring. Do I need to use tubes with these tires if I use the factory spare rims?

Thanks,

HANKFAN

You can run them on the streets, it's legal to, because there are three groves that make up the "tread". But, safe?? If you hit any water or ice, you'll kick out, and the tire won't last longer than 6,000 miles of daily normal driving use.

If you're gonna drivem on the street, I'd remember they ain't gonna corner worth a *****, and they arn't safe at sustained high speed, and tubes are a good idea although they will ruin your rims because you have to drill out the stem hole for them to fit.

Cool

They're safe if you always drive in a straight line.

Hankfan: if i was going to run some sticky tires on the street i would go with the bf goodrich drag radials! they handle great plus when heated up they stick like glue! i always got 1.85-9 with them at the track..do you need me to come in to back you up with those races you got lined up? JL

Hankfan, I run ET Streets on my cobra, and I do love them, but a little bit of rain and its all over. You might want to look at the sportmans pro? they have. Same compound, more tread.
If you go with the ET Streets, youll find yourself constantly watching the weather channel before you head out, because a sudden cloudburst is not fun. I usually can do 20MPH tops when it rains, and its scaryfun.
I have driven about 4000 miles and a couple dozen passes on the 1/4, and still have alot of life in them.
I went with the tubes, because of the draglites, but alot of my friends run without them on stock rims and have had no trouble.

Thumbs down

No sh%t about the rain. My neighbor has beautiful black 98 Cobra convertible. He was running Nitto Drag Radials and got caught in the rain. Spun around three times and into the ditch. $5000 in body damage and 4 new rims.

Question

This thought just occurred to me; I know everybody is interested in running stickier tires on the rear, but has anyone experimented with running skinny, high pressure tires on the front for less wind and rolling resistance? Its not something I would ever do, as seldom as I get to run my truck at the strip, but it is an idea.
