Question 2002 T-Bird?

Anyone on this board got a deposit down on one of the new T-birds? If so, what kind of price did the dealer quote you, and when do you expect delivery?

alphadoggy,
Dude I work at the Wixom Assembly plant an
if you don't have your order in already I think your out of luck. That car will not be
releast for sale till its perfect. Their about 6 months or so behind in tooling and all so don't look for it till late fall (?)
There are other reasons too I'm sure but that
is the biggest. I heard the first year was sold out last spring?

What about the Cougar S?

My mother bought a brand noew '90 Cougar back then, and she wanted a new one back in 99. No joke, she drove the cheesy Cougar out one exit then beack in the very next entrance and told the salesman he had an unacceptable car and was not suitable for her to test drive.

Then he told her about the Cougar S and said it would be like the old one, but more refined (90's style). Then we never heard back from him...nor the 'manager'

Keep in mind she has been taking her car to this place for 10 years now, and they have made plenty off her.

What ever happened to the Mercury Marauder
that some were talking about earlier this
year? Now that one peaked my interest.

My mother put a 1000 dollar deposit on a yellow one when it comes in. Haven't gone over the price yet. Don't think they know how much its going to be.

Unhappy

Went by the dealer today, and they are NOT accepting deposits; they have yet to receive the price info and delivery schedule yet. They have started a waiting list, though.

Cool

well, the first 100 or 200 were designated to be sold through the Nieman-Marcus catalog at about $42k a pop. Wonder if that deal is still going on?

think i just answered my own question. went to their web site and could not find anything re:thunderbird in the catalog.

Robert, don't know why you think the first year is sold out, when it isn't even known how many Ford is going to build. The dealer who sold me my L. has no info on price, delivery dates, etc., and refuses to take a deposit. He does have a waiting list, and I added my name to it this morning. Depending on how many are allotted to him I'd say I have a good chance of getting one.

A buddy of mine who is a ford salesman told me when I asked how much the new T-bird was going to be? "We will start out at $20k over window sticker. There are always suckers who will pay that have to have everything first."

Question

Just got call from my dealer. Said if I wanted the T-bird I could come in and give them a $1000 deposit, and I would be assured of getting one, although I would be the last on their list of 15 allocated. They sell Lightnings and Cobras for sticker, but they are adding $5K over on the T-bird, even though Ford is supposed to build 25,000 of the suckers. They told me that other dealers in this area are going to charge $15K over sticker, and they were going to add $10k until some of the customers, who had been told they'd get them for MSRP, started screaming bloody murder. I think I will go ahead and put down the deposit, and then see what is happening in the marketplace by the time they get around to me. If I can sell it and make a profit I will, otherwise I will pass on the deal. What would you folks do?

I'd say sell it for the profit, and buy the Forty-Nine, a lot better looking in my opinion, plus you could let me borrow it!! j/k!
