Post Roll Bars anyone...???

Hey Guys, I have done a lot of research on what we will need to make us a NHRA legal roll bars.
I have also contacted a friend of Empty Pockets Racing that designs and builds car chassis for a living. I have worked out a fair deal for anyone interested in having a cage professionlly installed.
The installer is currently one of the best out there and builds many pro 5.0 cages and custom work.

Now....my question is, who is interested in having a roll bar done?? This will be a 6 point roll bar with side swing outs and must go out the rear window. The rear glass window will be replaced with Lexan.

The chassis shop is located in NJ. If anyone from the EAST Coast is interested in a roll bar, contact me. By having 4 trucks done, it will keep the costs down and affordable.

comments??

Question

Do you have an approximate dollar figure or any preliminary layout sketches? Just curious.

Where would points 5 & 6 mount (the 2nd set in the cab?).

What about just a 4 point in the bed? Too 4x4-ish?

DreamaboutL the cage will be inside the truck, except for the points 5&6 which will have to come out the back window. Sucks I know, but do you want to go faster. Hell yeah!!!! Somebody will figure a way how to do a nice job on it.

Isn't there some way to make it legal and just have it run thru the sliding rear window? Then have some removable bars for when you are not using it.

Daniel,
I cannot comment on pricing here...but it it less than you would expect to pay.

Dreamin',
I think your mistaken a roll bar for those big bulky roll bars that 4x4 trucks install for looks and to mount all those million candlepower lights on. A 6 point cage is the main hoop (2 points) , the 2 bars going out the back down to the frame (2 poins) and also 2 side bars that will run from the main hoop down the side to the floor pan by your feet.

99SVT,
The company that will be doing mine, does alot of work for many of the Pro 5.0 cars, including Super Street outlaw cars. In fact, its the same company that did Froggy's mustang, and also the custom ladder bars set-up as well. Trust me...I will not have a hack cage installed in my ride, It will look right, and be tucked away nice and tight. there are not many chassis companies I will trust with a 30K truck, exept for them.

I take it you'd have to lose the torneau cover on the back for this?

Just a word of caution on the roll bars.

Having a roll bar in the interior can actually be dangerous to you when you are driving w/o a helmet.

If you whack your unprotected bean on the bar in an accident, your brains will be well-mixed. If you're short enough to be clear of the bar, no problem. I'm 6'4" and I'd be real leery of having one of thos things inside my truck.

But, if you are willing to rip up your Lightning to put a roll cage in it, you probably wouldn't notice a little more brain damage.

RTKilla, what makes you think you need a roll cage? You haven't even broken into the 12s yet!

Dude that was lasst year!!!!!
By WFC I'll be well into the low low 12's and most likely with a NOS program a mid 11.
Not to mention the fact that this 5.4 is on the last leg of getting ripped out and swapped with a 351 clevland and a vortech ys trim. SOmebody better start making more serious parts for it. As soon as the new body style L is made, this one's on here way to the 9, 8 second club. I'm crazy!!!!!!

I'm not flamming, just expressing myself. sorry

Daniel,
The bars will pass through the tonneau cover and still be functional. I will have to have a professional do the the vinal work.

BadDog,
The roll bar will not be in the way. I think you've mistaken it for a full roll cage with the "halo" bar in the way for the tall guys, making head cleareance a problem
With the set-up that I am installing, the only possible thing to whack the mellon on is the main hoop behind you. The side bars will be removable for daily driving....quite simple.
Maybe a whack or two on the mellon will do me good. Cant wait until you see the interior Gordon...I think you'll love it, I have done some custom work to it

RT,
Dont let that DOG pick on you he hasn't even seen me break out of the 13's either...LOL

RTKilla,

LOL. OK, it sounds like you're on your way.

I'm not that crazy yet, but I'm getting there. It's my age. Everything happens slower, even enthusiasm.

Spiro... very interested in the roll bar.

Sorry for my earlier cryptic questions, let me try again.

1) What did you have in mind for the mount points for the 2 side bars?

Diagonal across:

Around door perimeter:

Down low:

2) Do you think it would be possible to build a 4-point rollbar which fits
only in the bed (frame) - I know that the 4x4 "chrome rollbars" are only for looks, but in this case, it would be functional. Do you think it would be safe enough? This would keep the interior stock...

3) Another question: What material did you have in mind? 1.75" Chromemoly?

Thanks,
Dreamin

DreaminAboutL,

The door bars would mount to the floor in the same spot as your 1st picture but would attach to the main hoop about half way up near the drivers shoulder. Regarding the 4 point, you could do it but it would not be NHRA legal.

Ok spiro last night I could not get the roll bar off my mind, and I've come to this conslusion about it. Will there be a way to have removable rear bars that will come out the window. So when I'm not racing I could remove the rear bars and install my hard bed cover. If I can't find a way to do a cage with the hard cover inplace, this kids buying a stanger to fulfil his need for speed. I just don't think I ready to get rid of the cover.
