How much trans fluid does the pan hold?

I have an 01 L w/a 4x4 pan. I wanted to just drain the fluid in the pan, how much (approx.) is needed to refill to the proper level? Keep in mind just the pan not the entire system. Thanks in Advance ;-)

When I bought a 4x4 pan and VB from LFP, the instructions said to start at 6 qts IIRC, and go from there.

When I had the factory 4 x 4 pan on my truck, I found that with a fluid and filter change, it took a little less than 8 quarts to refill it. Since the 4 x 4 pan holds one extra quart, it should take a little less than 7 quarts to refill with a stock pan.

BTW... if you have the stock pan off, why would you want to reinstall it? The 4 x 4 pan not only holds an extra quart of fluid, it also has a drain plug so you don't have to take the Mercon bath the next time you do a fluid change.

I just installed a Derale deep sump pan on my truck this morning. Man, that thing holds a lot of fluid. They say an extra three quarts, but I put 10 quarts in and it barely shows up on the dipstick. Probably need to throw in an extra 1/2 quart to top it off.

Having the factory 4 x 4 pan on there to begin with made the swap a breeze. Not even a drop of Mercon on the floor!
