The Cobra R and the ZO6 are two cars to be compared that would be pretty close in times and all that, but to compare it to a Viper GTS, thats just foolish, the GTS like Lightning/ASP said pulls low 12s high 11s, the R and the ZO6 dont come close, theres no comparison, no questions asked, and if anybody or any magazine says there is, than they have definitely overdosed on some non-prescription drugs and needs to seek a physician pronto..

Z06 1:36.3 - 95.4mph
Viper GTS 1:34.9 - 96.7mph

You did not read my post carefully. The RT-10 is the convertible Viper. The GTS is the road track car. I'd like to see how a vette convertible and a Cobra convertible would do against an RT-10 in a comparo! LOL

 

sorry to see such disrespect for the R on these forums. every mag lists different times for the cars, with totally contradicting results in each. its funny how fans of certain cars choose to acknowledge only the stats of their car from the mag that puts it at #1.

again,for the umpteenth time, the R is not a 1/4 car, so its high 12s are impressive, and the top end is more than the z06, if that matters any. (after 160 mph, whose counting anyway?)

the R is a special collectors car, maybe used to road race, but probably just sitting in peoples garages or on overpriced dealers lots... thats it. but to say its weak, stupid, slow, etc is plain ignorant of the facts: 0-60 in the 4s, 1/4 in 12s, top end 175 mph, one head turning car, only 299 other people in the world own one that is exactly the same. i bet this thing turns heads at a rate 10x that of vipers, due to sheer rarity.

ps: who gives a **** if it has a radio? factory radios are never the best anyway, if you want one so bad, put one in... if you could afford to buy the R in the first place, you can afford a nice after market system.

and a/c? again, who gives a ****??? i never use a/c, roll down the friggin windows and wave to the people you smoke in everyday traffic. sheeeesh!

Stop Waving your Ford Flag...
The Mustang is weak for 55,000K, collector item, I guess each there own, but it is still just a ford mustang at the end of the day. Look at the numbers, they don't lie, it is not a value. Now if it cost 40K, then maybe, but the Z06 has a much better chassis, equal powertrain (maybe better), better styling, better interior, a radio, an air conditioner, and insulation. You say the R is for Road racing, that is not a good excuse, because a Z06 or GTS street car will run with it stock for stock, and giving the Z06 or GTS the tires the R(ipped off), the r won't stand a chance. With the cobra being setup the way it is, it will go through tire faster that the Z06.

The question now become what is the R?
The R is simply the baddest(meanest) Mustang, Ford has ever made, nothing more, nothing less. To make excuse for it, like it is a road race car, doesn't hold, the numbers don't support it. If your intention is to own the badest mustang, more power to you, but the Z06 and the GTS are sweet cars and are build on a more purpose build chassis, they have the DNA to be a much better Road Race car.

 

The GTS and RT/10 differ in that the GTS pulls 1.0g of lateral exceleration and the RT/10 pulls .94g. Also, the 1/4 mile times are identical. The breaking on the cobra R is the best of all the vehicles. The cobra R is a nice dedicated track vehicle not meant for daily driving hence the limited to 300 production status. Theres many other fast cars out there. Such as the new 911 turbo which handily outpowers and outmanuevers the viper. Two totally different vehicles that appeal to totally different senses. As is the cobra R, a unique vehicle in itself that can be appreciated if not by you, then by the 300 owners lucky enough to get them.

 

Why all this fighting?

We all know that the Neon R/T will blow away any of these so called "muscle Cars".

Also...they'd better watch out for the new Pontiac Montanna Thunder. That thing is an absolute BEAST!!!

Personally I think the R is a waste of money.How many people road race their R ?Not many!! How many drive in the 1/4 mile? Not many!! How many people let them sit in a sweet garage to look at and take out 3 times a year.This is where the majority of the cars are and sitting is what they do .Most of all, when you do take it out you dont even have a radio or a/c to keep it real.What the hell good is this car other than a show piece? NOTHING> And if you R owners think you have this special vechicle that is going to skyrocket in value over the next 20 years,keep this in mind. 299 people just like you feel this way so your car isnt that special at all.If they were all beat and you had a special babied one,Yours might be worth money but when ALL of them just sit in garages,They are no investment.You want to make money.go buy a house and wait 20 years .You will have a much better chance of tripling your money than to do it with your R
Id take a Z06 over any of them or even a C5.You could not even give me a mopar no matter how fast it is.I do however respect the car itself for being a great value for performance and daily drivabilty.

 

I think it is hilarious, how all of you tend to forget that the Z06 and the Viper are sports cars and the Mustang is and always will be the true "American Pony Car". I think that should state, there is no comparison. But, as far as motor, at least the Mustang has an American motor in it, unlike the Viper. The Stang will also outrun a Vette in top end. The lateral g's in the Stang should prove, with some slight mods. the car should out perform either of the other two. Not too mention, the Stang has the smaller motor of the 3. NUFF SAID!!!

 

i agree. i just dont see why anyone would pay $70000 + for a car with only 385 hp.

you can get a 2001L for about $32000 or less.

however mopar has some good parts.

i had a Viper 95 RT/10 in high school (but i had to work for it, my parents helped me ALOT but it wasnt given to me so no comments about it) it was red with a targa top.

i got ready to trade it in about the time the lightnings were coming out. i figured i would try something new ans was able to have enough after selling the V to pay cash for the L.

the guys at hennessy motorsports kept in touch with me and i told them that i had bought the lightning.

well a few months ago i was contacted by john hennessy of hennessey motorsports and he told me that they have an upgrade for the L that would give it over 500hp.

i didnt get it but i am now thinking about trying it.

I am 18 years old, 19 in 2 weeks, but I called on a Viper GTS insurance for me, being 18 and with 2 points on my record, I really have 8, but I said 2, full coverage and road side assistance, and the guy said a little more than 2k a year, with all my points, I'm payin more than that on my Dak R/T..

 

That's crazy! I don't know about that at all, is it a reliable insurance company. Do you live in a rural area? I just purchased a brand new '01 GT Mustang, I'm 19 have 0 marks on my record and my insurance is right at $1,500 every 6 months.

 

that is without a doubt the dumbest, most least thought out statement i have ever read...
