Is extrude honeing soemwhat bead blasting?

 

I believe some kind of medium is pressure fed through (an intake or something) giving a smooth surface vs. a rotary polisher or something like that.

 

Could the same results be obtained by bead blasting using a softer abrasive?

 

I won't pretend to know the answer. I've never worked around either one, I just remember reading something about it. I believe my former car's intake was extrude-honed. Maybe someone will know for sure.

 

The ex. honing uses a medium something like silly putty and is made with different abrasions in it. It is pressure fed through the piece over and over until they get what they are looking for. Bead blasting I don't believe will get all the spots that you would want to get to. A polishing wheel or grinding wheel/bit might do you some good too.
