Yep. Another malasise. I have the larger Tranny pan and filter and enough Mobil 1. Now guess I`ll wait and see what the breakout box indicates. Also found out that the motor they installed at 34500 miles is warranted for 24000 or 2 years. Nice to know. Original I was told 12000 or 1 year.

The same thing happened to my 99L. Also the trans shifted 2nd, 3rd and 4th in 2 seconds with the OD light blinking.
Asked one of my Ford tech buddies, I race with, and they all agreed-"Change the speed-sensor (located on top of rear differential). $8.00, remove one bolt disconnect wire plug, pop out sensor and re-install. 10 minutes-DONE and no further problems.
Did you get a "REBUILT ENGINE"or a Crate Lightning motor?? Reason being, I heard that Ford ran out of Lightning crate motors and any L over 2 years old will be getting a "REBUILT 5.4L Asperiated Engine".
What are we going to do with the 9.3 compression ratio, head gskts.rods, Hyperconetic pistons and etc, If this is true?

I can't for 2 seconds believe that they can put a normal 5.4 as a replacement for a warranty S/C 5.4, the engines are different parts, and not interchangeable. Sounds like an urban legend to me. On the O/D light flashing, it's written a code to your computer, have the dealer check it, may very well be the TSS, but you won't know unless they check it, Tranny problems are tough to diagnose by feel, if it's blinking it wrote a code that will tell you exactly what's wrong. the alternative is to keep changing parts until you find the problem, if it doesn't eat itself before you find out what's wrong.

Pulled the code about an hour ago with the S.T.A.R. breakout box. Code = PO782 2-3 shift error. Relative to shift speed or duration. Sounds like your problem. picked up the rear axle speed sensor for dealer cost. Here it was $11.11...I`ll update as soon as it is installed. The light has stayed off so far, say maybe ten miles and I have yet shifted manually into third. Concerning the crate motor,thats what I got along with new cats and O2 sensors. No way in hell can Ford pull that standar 5.4 swap..unless they run a new Lighting in underneath the old one.
