Question Predictions for C5 vs 2001 L

0-60? 1/4? Top end? How do you all think the new L's will hang with a C5?

I asked my Magic 8-Ball, and it said, "Outlook is not good for the Corvette this year"

Skennett, The outcome will totally depend on the driver. If the car is stock with a good driver your stock L is going to be beat in the 1/4, but not by much. Now on the other hand if you have a chip and filter on that L, the C5 will be seeing Ford's new designed tailights.

Happy C5 Hunting,

I might have to change my plates to "Z06KLR"
All I'd need to do is get a chip and intake. Well, I'd get more street action anyhow, and the regular C5s would just love to try me.

The new 01 C5 has 5 more hp so I think it should fare well against the 01 Lightning. I havent seen a test of the reg 01 C5 but the 00 C5 ras running in the 13.3 range. As far as top end it wont even be close. Stock C5 should run around 175, a Lightning should be around 150. As far as modded, I have a 99 L and a 00 C5, both with about the same mods and the C5 still has a solid 3 lengths in the quarter on the L. On top end the C5 has about 30 more mph. Gas mileage is no contest with C5 with a 20 mpg difference. Towing the L has about a 5000 lb advantage. As for drawing stared the L wins too. The thing attracts a lot of attention.

Tundra,
Z06KLR--I don't think so! You better be in the low 12's to make that happen. At my local track a stock Z06 (but he had drag radials) ran a best of a 12.31.

Here's my prediction on a C5. Up until the point that I repaired my LT1 Automatic C4, I was posting on the Corvette forum how a Lightning would be a stock LT1 (which is slower than a C5). Well, I'm singing a different tune now--after replacing my distributor in my Vette, stock to stock, it hands down outruns my Lightning. My LT1 runs 13.6-13.7, my Lightning runs 13.8-13.9.

So, my prediction is: I don't know. I think stock to stock, the C5 will post better 1/4 times, chipped filtered and a good holeshot and the Lightning prevails. So, I think the 01 should be a good run stock to stock--I think it will boil down to the driver in that match.

Your Vette has the dreaded Opti-Spark distributor, right. I believe yours was not vented for that year. The 97 30t Aniversary Camaro SS I used to own never got into the 13's. A 14.1 was the best I could get. I used to race my friends 96 Vette at the Detroit Dragway (RIP) and he could only get 14.2's. You've got a quick Vette for an LT1 for sure. Do you have a shift kit too? I did get my SS to do 13.4's with ported heads/intake, LT4 hot cam, custom PCM and Magnecore 8mm's.

BadBolt,
My LT1 is a 96, in 95 & 96 they changed the optispark to the vented type. Prior to replacing I was running 14.2-14.3, with a one time best of a 13.97. Then after replacing the optispark I ran 13.6-13.7 for numerous runs (when I could hook up the rear). Yes, it appears I have an excellent running LT1, especially since it is the automatic. I've been told by numerous Vette owners that they never see a stock one below a 14.2-14.3 here in Phoenix (1250 altitude). I did install a 160 thermostat, reprogrammed the fan turn on points and reprogrammed the shift firmness (it lays probably 10 feet of rubber in 2nd gear at the track--hard to keep it straight). Totally stock including factory airbox and air cleaner, and GSC tires. I have 24,000 original miles on it.

My next goal is the LT4 heads, hot cam, 52mm throttle body, high stall converter and dr's. I am hoping for mid 12's with that upgrade.

How did you like the hot cam? Was it a very lopy idle or not too bad?
