Lightbulb ABS LITE COMES ON, GOES OFF ON RESTART

Well I went into my friendly ford dealership and go see my favorite mechanic and tell him my ABS lite is coming on, but if you stop and turn off key and restart it stays off for awhile, maybe a day or two. Well we take the little box and hook it into the serial port under the dash (I have a chip installed and it did not interfere with this test) and he looks at the code and says it's 99% your counter on the top of the deferential is going bad. Yea, Haven't they fixed that since my 93? Yea, he says but they're still no good and go out all the time. I say when my last one went the speedo was erattic, the tranny shifted at all kinds of RPMs and the brake pedal felt like it was pushing back at me. He says, sooner or later this one would do the same thing, it just hadn't failed completely yet. If your ABS lite is coming on go and get a new speed sensor, covered under warranty of course.

Thumbs up

Even if they aren't covered under warranty(mileage) or if you are like me and don't want you Lightning tied up at the dealer for a whole day to install a $8.00 part that take 5 minutes to in- stall (one bolt), do it your self.
My tech told me that he's installed 100s of these since 1999, on Ford trucks, and Ford still hasn't changed them. So what else is new??

Talking

Yea, I understand the wait problem but I don't have that. I go in the back and find my tech. He stops working on whatever hes doing and looks at my truck, tells me to get an open ro from my service writer, drives the truck in back and by the time I get to the back with the RO hes already putting in the part. Took about 10 minutes. I love my dealership.
