Post $650 for winter tires good?

I was supposed to get a set of winter wheels/tires from someone on this board but I got screwed over by him. So now I've been lookin at gettin em retail.

Is $650 for a set of 225/75/16 winter duelers with steel F-150 rims (installed, mounted, balanced) a good deal?

HEY 95
I bought 4 used steel wheels and caps and 4 Winter Master tires, mounted and balanced for about $425. I have used these tires for my second winter now with no problems. I do have 350lbs of sand tubes in the rear to help out, as most 4X2 need the help.

I used the wheels in the summer for my DR's.

I got a set of 1999 F-150 steel wheels from a junkyard and put on goodyear AT/S 255/70/16's. Works really good in the snow (compared to the F-1's) and I can use the steel 16 inch wheels for slicks when and if I want to got that route. $30.00 each for the wheels and $300.00 for the two tires.

I recently bought 4 ARA
alloy 16x8 rims and
245/75/16 Bridgestone Winter
Duellers for $930.00 from
Tire Rack in South Bend, IN.
Talk about a nice hook-up
package and they fill the
wheel well almost as nicely
as the F-1s. Mother
Nature's early blast of
winter has become child's
play with this set up.
Anybody wanna go play in the
snow?!

I just bought 4 winter duellers mounted on 98 navigator takeoffs for $700 from tirerack. Made a big difference in the snow.

I paid $1200 for my winter wheels... I wanted nicer then steel rims for the winter so I bought a set of ASA rims with a set of Dunlop Winter Sport M2's.

The rims were $150 each and the tires were $140 each. The tires are 255/65HR16's... I wanted 17's, but they were sold out for the season. Maybe next year.

Are you guys doing tire math when you buy your tires? You all bought tires that are getting a bit bigger then the stock wheels, this will effect your speedo, RPM's and odometer no?

(Width*.AspectRatio*2)+Rim=Height
25.447mm=1"

Stock F1s:
(295*.45*2)+457.2(18")=722.7mm (28.4")
My M2 Sports:
(255*.65*2)+406.4(16")=737.9 (28.9")

Other tires in this post:
(225*.75*2)+406.4 = 743.9 (29.2")
(255*.70*2)+406.4 = 763.4 (29.9")
(245*.75*2)+406.4 = 773.9 (30.4")

Let me get this right, you fella's are spending $500.00 to $1000.00 to drive your $30,000.00 trucks in the snow, with all the idiots out there? Plus the occasional patches of black ice. Why not just buy a $500.00 winter beater and let the Lightning sleep the winter safe and sound? Just wondering.

Well, because some of us need reliable transportation for the winters. A $500 car prolly wont get you very far for very long...and the potential repair costs could be horrendous.

fast gator does have a point there. garage that baby and get a cheap junky car for winter! although 95 saleen s351 does have a point to. all i know is that my SS sits in garage when it snows here. i work with my brother at our family owned gas station repair shop, and he practically drives by my house to get there, so on bad weather days, he gets a phone call at his house the night before asking for him to pick me up, lol. he has a chevy pick up 4x4 with plow, so theres my ride to and from work when its bad out. i know not everyone has this option, but if that was my lightning, she would be sittin' pretty in the garage. later guys , Mike : )

I like my Lighting, but its not a precious asset to me. Sure I park way the hell away in parking lots so no one dings my doors..but its still my daily driver. I need a car that can go 50 miles round trip to work every day and a $500 car wont swing it.

I don't have enough garage space for 2 cars. It's tight as it is with the Saleen and my bike in there. And my Saleen sure as hell isn't going to be a daily driver. That car spends the whole winter in the garage.

I bought the Lightning knowing it was to be my "practicle car" that I would have to drive every day and take to parking lots. (The saleen is never taken to parking lots) And it makes a damn good daily driver. And with the new tires, it will continue to be a good ride well into the winter.

Cool

I understand what you guy's are saying, but my $300.00 winter car is on its second winter with $350 spent on tires and belts/hoses. Better than spending $500 deductible and having the truck in the shop for a couple months. And I drive 43 miles round trip per day, but I carry a cell phone and AAA card. Later from the Gator
