Removing fan clutch assembly
Hello all..
Could somone please shed some light on how to remove the fan clutch assembly on our Lightnings.. The main question is which direction to turn the clutch to remove it.. Clockwise or counter clock wise.. I do not want to damage anything in the process.. It seems it is different for various motors..
I know a special tool is required but still need info on removing it..
Much thanks..

I just checked on my 2000 Lightning as the fan is off while I'm removing the engine.
If you are facing the front of the truck, you turn the fan assembly clockwise to install and counter-clockwise to remove, so it is not a left-hand thread (on some engines, the shop manuals are wrong). I got this information from one of the other threads (either the Engine or HVAC one). Do a search in those if you want more detail, but the jist of the tool is to hold the water pump pulley steady by holding onto the four pulley bolt heads with a huge "open end" wrench while you turn the nut on the fan assembly counter-clockwise. I think when I took mine off it worked best to hit the wrench on the fan nut with a rubber mallet at the end to "break" it loose.
Let us know how it goes. It seems pretty tight until it breaks.
