Stock best

13.89@99 w/ a 2.223 60'
Consistent 14.0s

With straight pipes and 150 lbs more in the bed,

13.603@101.15 w/ a 2.145 60'
Consistent 13.8s. Went 6 for 10 - 13.6s, one 13.71, and 2 13.8s. 60' between 2.145-2.2

I even have a Ford SVT promo video (came with the truck) stating they lost 4% from the exhaust system, compromising for sound.

Tundra do the straight pipes ever backfire or pop. I have borla on right now and just wanted louder sound. Yoda I probably would of put dynomax on but I already had borla. Thanks to both for responding

sovich,

After talking with Tundra, I decided to go the "straight" route too. However, I felt I needed some sort of noise control as the cops around here love pulling people over. I decided on DynoMax Bullet race mufflers. 4" diameter and 2.5 inlet/outlet.

Yesterday I went to the muffler shop and had my stock muffler cut off and the new ones put on. I did not alter or damage the cat pipes, however the outlet pipes had to be cut from the muffler. No biggie.

Crossed my fingers and hoped for a good sound. The muffler guys said it would be loud as hell. I said I didn't think so because of the 4 converters and stock manifolds. Well, it sounds great. Never really heard a street car sound like it - more like a marine engine with a through the transom exhaust like Chris Craft or Ski Nautique. Deep and throaty. About 10 db louder at idle and cruise, 25-30 db louder at full throttle, but not obnoxious.

Haven't been able to do all-out G-Tech runs, but preliminary results look good. Gas mileage seems better, water condensation "shoots" out the tailpipes now, where it used to dribble out while idling.

Jim,
Thanks very much for the info. I have to look into them. Thats what I want a deep throaty exhaust that doesn't pop. I figured the borla would be loud because it sounds great on my z28, but I guess I was wrong. Thanks again

I was deciding between those bullet mufflers & the race magnums. I decided on the magnums, but havn't installed them yet. Are those deeper & louder than the oval race magnums?

Has anyone had a problem with rear rim from the side outlet dual exhaust?

sovich, I found that when engine is cold like this morning, it is LOUD and the engine pulsations are almost too much until it warms up. You might want to keep your Borla unless you (like I do) love hearing a V8 do its thing. I think the side exit is the culprit. It must sound good though, I got a major 'thumbs up' from a guy on the interstate when I went to work.

Norcal, I don't know which is louder for sure. I'm guessing mine are since they are so small and STRAIGHT thru.

HORSE9, Hybrid on the NLOC board did. I think he said they were peeling.

Jim,
I just had one last question. Will a typical muffler shop like midas in Arizona install those. I wasn't sure if they were allowed. Thanks again for all your help

brian,

You sound like me...you've got Borla already, and that's not enough! Always looking for more it seems no matter what you've got.

Anyway, I got the sound I'm after and it didn't seem to hurt me in the performance dept. I haven't checked the HP yet,(don't think it's changed though) but the bottom-midrange feels stronger.

Yes, I think Midas would do it no problem. Afterall, it's not like you're asking them for open pipes, even though they sort of are. Just give this mod some consideration before doing it...they are very robust, and you will hear it. Also, I agree with other posts about the H or X pipes. I didn't have time to get it done, but it's probably worthwhile. If you want to contact me, my e-mail is jr_petrie@hotmail.com.

Or if you would like pictures of Tundra Motorsports straight pipe muffler systems , you can email me at tundra@lightningguy.com or tundra_svt@yahoo.com

Tundra Motorsports straight pipes are available at any NAPA or auto parts stores that sell unbent steel exhaust tubing, and it doesn't come with Tundra Motorsports stamped in it.
