installed jlp intake problem?

Ok I installed jlp's cold air kit and why is my hood harder to close. its hitting on the box and kinda scrunched up the filter a little bit. the box is sitting like its supposed to. Is it just a tight fit or am i a retard?

The JLP box is not the best quality...as you can see around the edges that arent even welded or glued together. Mine also sits high. It rubs, ever so slightly under the hood. You may have to do a little bending of the box to get it to fit properly. Good luck!

Thats odd...mine fits like a glove and no welds have broken loose. all the paint is still on it and it doesnt touch my hood. it may help if you move the wirring harness thats under it. I believe there was a harness that I moved below the metal bracket that it sits on. I put mine on over a year ago and it looks brand new, no problems at all.

The box will fit and not rub....however....

The question is whether or not you have the stock rubber boot between the MAF and the Throttle body or an aftermarket piece (ie: C&L elbow)

If it is the stock rubber boot, it isn't installed correctly. If it is an aftermarket (ie: C&L elbow), you'll need to do a bit of adjusting with the angle of the pipe and the coupling hoses.

...my box didnt come with welds in the corners. It was just folded together. Thats why they give you a piece of black plastic strip to put around the edges of the box, to hold it together better.

Then you received a box that was overlooked in the assembly/QC process.

when i had my box it fit just fine, so maybe try adjusting the psoition of the rubber inlet boot? It should have had one little spot weld on each side holding everything together. Not the greatest quality IMO.

under the box there are some rubber looking grommits that were used for the factory box, you need to remove these and it will give you about another 1/4" of clearance under the box.

thanks for all the help guys. Yes I do have a C and L elbow. I was thinking about it today if i put the jlp elbow on it might fit better but didnt really feel like spending the extra money. and ill definatly try the connections under and the rummer grommets.

You can see the small rub spot on the underside of the hood. If you work with the couplers and aim the pipe down a little, it will resolve it.

After I did that, The screen was removed permanently and I took a piece of vac line, sliced it lengthwise, and notched it at the corners to make a little cushion.

An optional fix would be to trim about an inch off the MAF end of the box and recut the sides so it wouldn't look obvious. Have to get it repainted/powdercoated though.
