Post Rust in the exhaust tips?

Okay, I know I should be wapped about the head with something heavy for driving on salted roads, but I have rust inside my exhaust tips now. Anyone know if I can polish this out or will it just come back. Also, all my brochures etc... say "ceramic coated exhaust tips" but I have straight stainless, am I wrong about this? Maybe powder coat them silver? (the truck is silver, I'd like a finish similar to the wheels)

I had that happen to mine last year and I tried everything on this friecking planet to clean them off. I never got them that clean. My suggestion, buy new tips (and don't drive your truck in the salt, I did once and I never will again). The best thing that I did use was a fine steel wool pad. That seemed to work the best, but they'll still look nasty.

Have you tried Old No. 7 Chrome Polish? I have used it on Stainless and Chrome exhaust pipes on motorcycles. It may work if you haven't tried it. Available at any auto parts chain for less than $5 or so.

Have you tried CeramaBryte Stovetop Cleaner? Some of the others have used that to really shine up the tips. It's available at Home Depot, etc.

'Tech:

Mother's aluminum polish (available almost anywhere) will definitely do the job, if you have a good long while to spend on the job. You shold see some of the things I've polished with it - titanium, stainless, aluminum, and yes, the exhaust tips on my 'Bolt.

Are you planning on dropping by the Cavalcade of Customs this weekend? I'm headed over tonight with the Old Lady, then a few barley pops at Barrelhouse.

I had made mention to my service writer about the rust and discoloration of my tips, and he did order me some new ones, but since being rear ended, I never made it back to the dealership to have them/it replaced. Talk to your service writer, they may order you a new ones.

Mine are doing this as well. Rusting inside. I thought about taking a drill with a steel brush and clean it up a bit. Then primer the inside with a high temp. And the paint it black inside. When i get around to it anyways
