Angry Who has this problem?

How many people with lightnings have or had a oil leak on the passenger side were the head bolts onto the block at the rear of motor? I want to know what the dealer did to fix it.Next week they are going to replace my head gasket.
Since the end of November on my truck they have replaced my intercooler ,did the frontend clunk fix now the oil leak.I have 13058 miles on my truck. Can we say time bomb!!!I have posted twice at BON for the intercooler leak. I really did love this truck but I don't think it is worth all of this.

I think someone had the gasket changed and another had the engine replaced.

Thumbs down

Do a search because I remeber seeing a problem w/the casting of earlier 5.4 blocks. If I see it I will put the hyperlink hear. I recall it was a problem in the casting of the block on the rear passenger side of the block. Just remembering so don't get worked up, my memory is not what it used to be.

I do remember that post put I was wanting to know how many Lightnings this has happen to.I tried to tell the service manager about it and of course the deer in the head light look.I asked him if they would replace the motor if the gasket did'nt work and he said that it would be a rebuilt motor and I said over my dead body .He told me that Ford stopped about six months ago with putting in new motors.I told him we would be in court if it comes to that.I hope the gasket fixes it.

When/If you get the head gasket replased ask for new bolts. The bolt are torque to yeild. A one time use bolt..... Just my two cents...

Had my engine replaced at 1500 miles for oil leak on passenger side head. New engine, not rebuilt.

Got a transmission replaced shortly thereafter. And now my intercooler is leaking at ~11,000 miles. In hibernation waiting for the real "fix" or a 2001 (on order), just not sure which at this point.

I met a Lightning owner up here, this is what I remember, he asked if I had any problems, and I said no. Then he told me about his, and it sounded bad.

Tranny went kaput, new tranny
blew a headgasket, new headgasket
tech didn't torque a spark plug, and that blew out the head. New cylinder head.

I forget is there is something else.

Jim (littleredL): After responding to your note on HALO board yesterday (?), mine started leaking oil tonight. Please drop me a note @ bobcmt@flash.net; I have been using the same dealer for work and also live in Sugar Land. My understanding is at a minimum head must be replaced, if not motor. Will be calling SVT ASAP. Yes, these great toys do have too many CHRONIC problems; seat, clunk, inner cooler and now poor head or block castings. Have had them all at 17K miles. That extended warranty is looking like a better buy every day.
