Post What kind of Flowmaster?

Hi this is my first post, I've been lurking around this board for a while and now I have a question. After reading a bunch of posts about ppl installing flowmasters in their L's, I would like to know what part number works for the lightnings. I guess I want to go with the 40 series, but what offset or inlet/outlet or whatever is req? Also, I know sound preference varies, but is the 40 series too obnoxious? B4 I had been driving a 1st gen Lightning w/ a bassani cat-back exhaust which was just about right- if any of you guys have heard them. Also... how much shoud I expect to pay?, the first quote I got is for atleast $170 labor plus mufflers. This seems a little high, is it poss. to install them yourself, I have access to lift and welder but I have very little experience with a welder. Maybe you guys could recommend a shop in the orange county area. BTW the 99 white L i'm driving is my dads which was converted to natural gas, you might be interested, the government paid for 1/3 of the price of the vehicle plus conversion fees! This whole clean air program has been a controversy in Arizona and was recently cancelled... I'll try to post some photos of the regulator and carbon fiber tank if you're interested.

Thanks in advance

Sorry, don't know what to tell you about the flowmasters. I think MM&FF just added a full Bassani to their test truck, and saw some gain in power, but can't quote the exact figures. Actually, the reason I replied to your post is because I'm curious as to how the natural gas conversion affected power. Since its your dad's, he probably wouldn't let you take it to the strip to see what it'll run in the 1/4...so i guess you'll have to take the keys while he's not looking or asleep (jk). Pictures are always cool, and so is carbon fiber...so post away. Later...

Cool

You'll need (1)2.5" offset inlet/center outlet(passenger side) and (1)2.5" center inlet/center outlet(drivers side) and in order for them to fit where the stock muffler is you have to lay them on their side like this: // .

If you wanna hear what the Flowmaster 40's sound like download my dyno video(right-click, save target as):

On my L I installed 2 one chamber Flowmasters. These mufflers are really short so they fit right where the factory muffler was. My L has a nice sound at idle at has a semi agressive sound a WOT. This is my second set of Flowmasters on my L. The first set was a pair of 2 chambers. They were way to quite.

Question

4D THNDR

Did the 40's fit directly? or did you have to extend any pipes? also did you have them welded or did you go with clamps?

BTW they sound GREAT

Dont worry whitelightin',
NASDAQ is doing much better today.I bought a bunch of a paticular stock on friday that has had a high value through the year and I bought it for a LOW LOW price.I have been scared ***** since.its a big win or big lose deal. Both days i have been gaining 10-15%.its funny because,if this stock does a slight fraction of its high this year,im gonna make a decent years pay in a few months.I hope things go good for you.

MXRacer- with the natural gas conversion, the truck is much slower, I think the problem is that the regulator can't supply enough fuel to the engine when you mash on the throttle. For the natural gas, its something you would turn on once you get on the freeway cause' its so slow. But the fuelmaker a the house is only around 70 cents a gallon!

I don't know about flowmasters on the L but I just put my full bassani on the truck and god all mighty does it sound awsome. I love it. MMFF said 13 hp and 26 trq, so we will see what happens. But the sound is just awsome on it. I can barely hear the blower now with it on there. Glad I did the bassani.

They had to make up a couple of short bends exiting the muffs and hooking to the stock tips. They clamped to the stock stuff and welded what they fabricated so the stock muffler could be replaced in the event someone wanted it returned to factory specs.
