Question Need directions for 2nd hand Airaid install??

I purchased an Airaid 2nd hand from this message board. I didn't get a copy of the installation directions. I've done the search, unfortunately the links are missing or lost.
Do you leave the rubber grommets under the Airaid from the original box?

I have installed the Airaid, leaving the grommets, and the hood is very difficult to close. I know that some of you have trimmed the Airaid. Did you trim the whole thing or just portions?

Help please,
Mark

HiHo,

When I had an Airaid, I left the rubber grommets from teh original box on the mounting plate.

However, leave the sides off and cut a piece of rubber vaccuum line for the area were the L-shaped piece touches the hood.

Benefits = A TON more blower howl, better airflow, and hopefully addresses your concern.

good luck

Robert

What a coincidence. I bought an Airaid around Thanksgiving and finally got around to installing it yesterday. I'm also having trouble with hood clearance. I called the tech line listed on the instructions and asked if I was supposed to leave the grommets in. They said yes, but when I asked if removing them might gain a little more clearance they didn't have any other suggestions. I didn't remember hearing anything about board members trimming the box, but I guess that is next. I'll do a search. Any other suggestions?

After turning up little on my search I looked at the hood/box clearance as I slowly lowered the hood and decided--WTF! With a significant more amount of firmness than before I latched the hood down all the way. The hood doesn't protrude above the fender line like I had thought it might. I guess I was just being a little too overprotective.

FYI,
When I shut my hood with the Airaid installed the hood raises up above the fender by about 1/8".
I took the rubber seal off and placed modeling clay around the upper edge of the Airaid box, closed the hood in order to get an impression. The clearance varied from .220" to >.750"! Not a very good match to the hood. I am presently grinding all clearances to 0.5", those that are already over 0.5" will just stay that way.

Aftermarket quality strikes again.
