FTVB/engine rpm
FTVB/engine rpm
I installed a FTVB along with some other mods (FTVB only thing done to driveline). Is it normal to let off the gas at 60 or so and have the engine slow the truck down more than stock? It's kind of like turning off the OD and getting up to 60 and letting off the gas which makes the engine slow the truck, though not as drastic.
It also seems like I run a higher rpm at highway speeds too. About 2500 @ 70mph. Don't exactly remember what it was stock. Have stock gears btw.
Am I normal??

do you have an aftermarket tune loaded? if YES, are settings for line pressure (tranny) at stock levels??
I have the FTVB (by Gregg Evans) on both my L and HD F-150 and have not experienced what you described!

I had a dyno tune done....specifically asked for the line pressure to not be increased.
Now I'm wondering wtf is making this happen. At first I thought that the dyno run tune was left on (the tune that keeps the truck in third gear for dyno pulls), but it shifts thru all the gears. Is there any way for me to check to see if the line pressure is increased, or do I have to go back to my tuner and have them recheck the tune?

The line pressure added in the tune should have nothing to do with your problem. You either have a sticky accumulator valve in the FTVB or maybe a restriction in the fluid (ie: old o-ring from tranny filter got stuck in tranny) I'd call Gregg Evans at FTVB or Chicken ears (who ever you got it from) and let them know. These performance VB's are built from used cores and some of them are older thean others. Don't wait too long.
Can anyone describe the way theirs shifts. I still have doubts that the FTVB is right.
mine...
1 to 2 somewhat quick but not what i would consider hard
2 to 3 SLAMS it
3 to 4 can't even feel it shift
4 to 5 not as hard as 2 to 3 but pertty firm
does that sound normal?

Are you WOT when you describe how it shifts, if not you need to be WOT for it to shift hard in all gears; if you are WOT then replace the FTVB its not right, or you might have a 'soft trans' Factory Tech can build you a FTVB to help that out too.
like Rusty said you only have 4 gears that last "shift" you feel is actually the T/C locking up if you feel a slam after its in 4th gear you have bigger problems than an FTVB issue; you said that your RPM's were off I would suspect that the T/C is starting to fail then.
just my $.02
Good Luck getting it fixed

When adding any mods always unhook you battery ground cable this lets the computer reset its self. just a word to wise never do electronic work on your lightning without unhooking cable [GROUND]

This is the first automatic I've owned, so I am new to the world of TC's and valve bodies. Can or does the TC lock up before the final shift? If so than that would explain my "3 to 4" soft shift.
At WOT the 1st and 2nd shifts are as I explained before. It's hard to find a long enough road to get an accurate WOT shift from 3 to 4.
The battery was disconnected throughout the install and for about an hour afterwards.
