We use a weight equalizing sway control hit to tow our 21' SunLine around, thing works great.

George,

Are you pulling that Boat that I saw? The cat? That looked like a huge boat to be pulling with the L, very cool!

Talking

Yes Matt, that's the boat. Appearance is deceiving, though, made of Kevlar, very light for its size. A lot of windage, though, so I was very relieved that the gusty winds did not seem to throw the Lightning off. I bought the Lightning so I could tow that boat when needed, but I had a lot of apprehension as to whether it would work. I be happy now.

Cool

Pics of what? Zdenka? I have some of her but they couldn't be posted on a family oriented bulletin board.

I also have a couple of the truck and boat, but I haven't downloaded them yet. I guess you're going to force me to do it, but I wanted to wait until the radome is installed so the boat would look really cool. And I'm sorry, but I fail to see the connection between my handle and posting pics?

Thumbs up Towing

Like many others on this board I have had a number of questions pertaining to the towing capability of the Gen.2 Lightnings. In reading numerous posts on this topic I have found quite a few misconceptions, compounded by the dearth of information in the FAQ (Jim Shaw, are you listening?). Many seem to think that the max. towing capacity of the L. is 5000 lbs. NOT! Molded into the plastic bumper cover is a warning that the max. towing capacity of the bumper is 5000 lbs. and 500 lbs. tongue weight. This applies to the bumper hitch only. On the receiver hitch, however, you should find a sticker that says that the max. towing capacity of that hitch is 5000 lbs., 500 lbs. tongue weight, but with a load distributing hitch it goes up to 8700 lbs. and 870 lbs. tongue weight. So for those of you contemplating towing heavier loads just get yourself an equalizing hitch and you are in business. Here is a link to a product which would appear to fit the bill:
http://www.equalizerhitch.com/boat.html
I had already intalled another product called active suspension on my truck. Here is the link: http://www.activesuspension.com/
I towed my 5500 pound boat the other day in gusty cross winds and it worked great, very stable, no problems whatsoever. Even with full tanks I don't expect to be towing more than about 6500 lbs. and based on my first run I do not anticipate any problems, but it is reassuring to know that if needed I can install the equalizer hitch and go up to 8700 lbs. My only concern then would be whether the wimpy transmission radiator that comes on these trucks would be adequate. Someone was supposed to be working on a better tranny cooler; any updates?

OK, I will give it a try. Not a very good pic in the first place, and I've never tried to post one before, so here goes nuttin'-

Well, I give up. Tried a bunch of different stuff, and I still can't get pic to open. Pretty sure I have the correct url in there, so I don't know what the matter is.

Question

Cteselle, that's the url I used, but I sandwiched it between so it would open without having to click on the link. What am I doing wrong?

About the handle... just something about the alpha dog, and the older interpretation of what someone might be asking about in the way of pics... Just a few years ago, when you wanted internet pornography, the easiest way was to use a search engine on the term "pics"... This would bring up 100's of **** sites.

Now how would I know aboput that?

Any way... I went to your link. What I do from there is.... right click on the pic... Then look at the properties of the pic... highlight the url address for the pic... and select edit copy, or use "control c".

Then open a reply and put in this...

{img]edit paste the address here, or use "control v"[/img}

Except put brackets where I put the parenthese(sp?) and make sure there is no spaces between the address and the brackets.

Like this...

If you go to edit MY post, you'll see a different url foir the pic... It's probably different because it doesn't include zing's fancy frames and stuff...

Sure, LD, help yourself, I'm flattered. I plan to post some better pics after the radome is installed, feel free to use any of them.

Do you know anything about why Ford gave us the 500 cargo limit? Some are speculating that the stock F1 tires are what prompted the 500 lb cargo max... They are load limited to 1850 lbs each. (I think...)

Maybe you should look into some truck tires or 16/17" rims and tires for towing?
