Cool

I think its pretty cool. It will certainly draw a lot of attention. Not something I would ever buy, though, given GM's reputation for shoddy build quality, and the fact that it is very anemic when it comes to towing or hauling.

What's wrong with a Matador? I have a friend who used to have an ex-factory drag racer. Gave me a ride in it once and scared the pee out of me. Think it ran 11's, would blow the doors off most Lightnings.
On the other hand, my favorite AMC was the Pacer. Friend of mine has a '72 that he will give me gratis if I promise to restore it. Was thinking of dropping a 302 small block into it, but it is more of a project in both time and money that I want to tackle right now.

Doesn't look much like a truck to me. How long and wide is the bed. I use my Lightning to carry lumber - lots of it. I built our front fence over the last few months and hauled over 1600 ft of redwood (bunch of loads).

If it can't carry a few hundred feet of wood, several sheets of plywood, then it's not a truck to me.

I personally can't wait until I catch a light with one...

As far as hot rodding goes, I like to leave that to the person doing the hot rodding. Otherwise its like getting Pilsbury cookie dough and calling your own home baked cookies. Sure you baked (bought) it, but it was someone elses recipe.

Thumbs down

MACD23 - The Chevy SSR is actually a 'drop top' - quite like the Shelby Dakota from the late 80's - even will have a V8. Keep in mind this is a concept vehicle - I have seen this truck in person - the photo does it justice - real life certainly doesn't! If the vehicle could even be produced within 2-3 years - would there be a market for it? I sure as blazes would not pay 30k plus for it nor the insurance premium that comes with it! This is just one more example of GM no substance 'eye candy'! That lump should be billed as a new S-10! Cruiser

Unhappy

This whole retro trend is awful in my perspective and it is producing a series of cars that are nothing more than a waste of sheet metal and fiberglass. I can't even call any of the retro vehicles that are out there 'eye candy'...more like eye-puke! The whole reason the 40s, 50s and 60s are in the past is because they are in the past!! The cars that were made back then are some pretty good looking vehicles, but they should not be mimicked in such a bad way. Leave them in the past and preserve the originals...don't recreate it.
